Price on GSR transmission

What is the going rate for a B17 GSR transmission (non-LSD). The guy said it’s been in his storage for a while b/c it was his friends. The friend owed him money and just gave him the transmission instead. He said that he never had an issue with it but for me to pay top dollar on a 20+ year old transmission with unknown condition is out of the question. He wouldn’t offer a price. He wanted me to offer. So I low balled him @ $300 on purpose to see if he would return and offer. I hate a seller that won’t name a price. I’m guessing he either doesn’t know what it’s worth or he just wants to see if I’m going to pay $800 for it lol. I could rebuild my B16 transmission for $300. Just trying to get some opinions on what a good price would be.

Thanks,
Ryan

Ryan[/QUOTE]I would not pay more then $150, even less not knowing what condition it is in.

A standard car manual tranny at PicknPull is $99 with a one week exchange or credit warranty… http://www.picknpull.com/part_pricing.aspx?LocationID=78&Language=English&NavItem=12&SearchCriteria=&#partpricing so $300 is pushing it.94

Well after looking at a guide about pricing. I am comfortable with my offer. The guy text me back and agreed to $300. He consulted his friend that gave it to him and he agreed with my offer. So, the next thing is to really confirm that it is infact a GSR transmission. From what I have read, there is no way to tell unless I open up the case and count the teeth or the ??ring gear??. B/c LS/RS/GS B18A transmissions are labeled as YS1 as well.

What is the ring gear? I have opened a transmission before but just took a look. I never defined what part is what. Can someone clarify what part I need to count to identify which transmission I will be getting? I wish there was a vin number I could match up.

$300 sounds about right… picked up what i thought was a gsr tranny for $300 (CDN) but it ended being another LS :frowning: it’s hard to identify because the ls and gsr tranny will say “YS1” on it

I know man. I don’t need another LS transmission lol. But it sux that I just have to take a risk like that. The best I can hope for is that it’s at least a 92-93 case so I can swap in hydro internals. At least from what I read that is an option with the larger dia. main shaft.

I feel like it should be a GSR b/c his friend intended to use it for a LS/vtec setup. Which, is what I am doing as well.

Sold my GSR tranny for $450. Now I’m using an LS tranny. I really like the long gear better, yet I’m missing my short gear. The acceleration is not so great.

I like the LS too, and I am going to keep it in case I ever boost. I have a CRX that could use it if i move away from all motor. Do you have a GSR engine with a LS transmission or is it LS/LS and used to be LS/GSR?

I have a GSR B17a with a LS tranny. I’m thinking of throwing in a greddy turbo to compensate the lack of torque. I get really good gas milliage 27 mpg city/highway. The top speed is amazing I think I can hit at least 180 mph before it even redline.

I imagine it’s a night and day difference going from a GSR to an LS. Doesn’t the cable GSR share the same gears as the B16? I just need to know what teeth I need to count to identify the transmission after I get it. The other option is to just install it but assuming it’s a GSR I will have to change my clutch out b/c of the spline difference. So I would rather just pop the case apart and take a look. At least then I can check out the syncros and stuff.

check out this link: http://www.knology.net/~jediklc/gearatiosbseries.htm I hope this help. Here’s another site to calculate your gear ratio: http://www.fatboyraceworks.com/gears/.

Just counted the ring gear on it and it’s 66T. And that is a B16/GSR/Type R. All the internals look to be in really good condition.

If you have a B17 tranny it will have a YS1 tag on it and 16 teeth on drive gear and 66 on the driven gear or ring gear. The A1and also the S1 tranny have the same 4.4 ratio these where in the 1990-1991 cars. I will email you the gear count for all the gear in these tranny so you can check on what you have. It is an Excel sheet I made up. I can not make it post here.

I also got mine for $300 and I believe it’s totally worth it. Gears are short and picks up quick…only thing is 5th gear seems like it’s in 3rd or 4th all the time when at highway speeds and picks up fast again…mine doesn’t grind at all but sometimes to get out of reverse I’ll have to back up a little again to put back into neutral…cross your fingers to be a gsr tranny…

Im pretty sure it is. I’m going to open the case again to count the FD. B/c I know the gear ring is 66T. I had a hydro GSR transmission on my old EG and it was a huge difference on the LS engine.
