Problem Starting up.

Hello, i have a 1992 Integra GS. 120K miles so far.
When i go to start up my car it will start up, and then the revs will just fall and the car will die.
I replaced the following so far: Cap, Rotor, Main Relay(under dash) plugs, wires, fuel pump, fuel filter.

I changed fuel filter when the car wouldn’t stay cranked thinking it was clogged, then i changed t the main relay when the car wouldnt start at all, and that problem went away.
But now,I can only get it going if i stay on the gas for the first few minutes of start up.

I thought it might be the starter relay ( which i have heard is on the right side of the radio under the dash) but i can’t find a replacement one anywhere? Any Leads on the part or ideas as to what could be wrong with my teg?

Thanks for the help,
Frank

not the starter relay. it only engages with the starter. once it starts, that relay is out of the picture.
could be the fitv, seeing as how it only happens on initial start up with a cold engine. could also be the coolant temp sensor, but it could be other things as well. find the source before throwing anymore parts at this

Fitv?

FastIdleThermoValve… its the valve assembly that is located on the bottom of the throttle body. It can get clogged up causing idle issues.

Thanks fellas, will clean the IACV and FITV tomorrow.

Also, anyone ever have a problem with the car not wanting to take gas?
Like when your going to pump gas the pump reacts as if you are full…but i was empty?

Inserts gas hose into tank, squeezes, squirts for a second then THUNK, acts like im done fueling up…im clueless.

Try not putting the fuel nozzle so far in the fuel pipe. Sometimes if you put it in too far the fuel hits the fuel neck and it back-flows and makes the fuel pump think the tank is full.

or there’s a kink or blockage in the hose somehow

In the fuel-filler neck of the car? I’d be surprised to see that, but anything is possible.

I just know that when filling up my EK that if I shove the nozzle too far into the fuel neck, it doesnt want to flow at full-force. Pull it out a little bit and it flows fine.

Well i tried adding gas again, it was no go.

Today was a fairly hot day, i had to rev the shit out of my car to wake it up, then when i made a turn the car died, and i had to start it back up while driving. Luckily it turned right back on, think the tank might be low, and that combine with the turn cause it to starve for fuel and die?

Im heading out to clean out those valves in a minute its too damn hot today.
Will keep you all posted, thanks for the help.

Cleaned out both parts, they werent really dirty.
Then the nipple broke off of my throttle body :frowning: it was rotting inside the hose and broke at the bend.

:argh:

that sucks, looks like its time to another throttle body while your inthere.

to get back to your problems. Did you look into your ignition unit and coil and make sure they are in spec?
