Problem while driving: Ign or Power related???

Today, while driving I ran into some sort of electrical issue. The first thing that happened was my stereo randomly turned completely off, then came back to life a second later, not a big deal. Later on, the battery light came on for a split second, wipers slowed, then half a second later all was well again (leading me to believe alternator issue). But, about 20 mins later (on the same trip), my ignition appeared to cycle (in a split second), my doors unlocked, then locked again (like it does normally when ign is turned off, then turned on again), my beeper beeped, and the seatbelt light blinked… after that all was good…

So basically i’m torn whether I have a power loss issue or an ignition issue, i’m leaning towards the latter. I’m thinking that it could be the ignition switch that is faulty… thoughts?

double post…

Check your battery terminal connections under the hood. I had this happen once and it was because they were dirty and not tight enough.

I would check your grounds, especially the main ground off the battery like paul posted above. I had some weird electrical issues similar to yours, replaced all my grounds with heavy gauge wire, problem solved.

It doesn’t sounds like an ignition switch issue. Check both cables on the battery. Make sure to check all the grounds on your engine as well and replace them with better wires like Gekko said.

The fact that the grounds on our cars do not have much shielding against corrosion, it is always important to check them. Use your manual to go under the hood and locate all the grounds and inspect them for any corrosion or breakage. If they are even slightly broken or corroded replace them.
When I had your problem, it was because my battery terminals were Wal Mart ones and made like crap. If you have an Interstate Battery store where you live, go there and spend the 15 bux to have them install new terminals. Their terminals are very solid, and after 2 years have never given me a problem. They also sell new high quality ground cable.

Im guessing voltage spike

get a volt meter and hook it onto the battery directly and monitor it while you drive. or if you’re balling get a Vantage to record the voltage while you drive.
