Problem with tail lights

after starting the car, i turn on my lights and everything works like its suppose to including the tail lights.

when i go to drive, i release the EBrakes and my tail lights go out. when i turn the engine off, it the lights come back on. it doesnt matter if the ebrake is released or not…

when i step on the brake pedel the lights come on regardless if the engine is on or off like it suppose to.

so the only time when the tail lights go off is when the engine is running and i release to ebrake to drive… the only way to get the lights on again is to turn off the car. even pulling the ebrake, it wont go on again.

its is a big problem at night, its hard to see me if yoyr behind me… during the day is no problem but i go work at night and need my tail lights

it cant be the bulb, i checked them to see if they are burnt out but its fine. plus they turn on but only when the ebrake is engaged.

any help asap would be greatly appreciated.

Check the tail light ground, disconnect it, clean both contact surfaces and reconnect.
Also check all dual filament bulbs, make sure filaments are not touching each other. 94

im not car savvy to know where the tail light ground is… can you please tell/show me.

im pretty sure theres nothing wrong with all the filaments, coz both sides of the tail lights go out… but i will double check them again

thanx for the quick response.

anyone?

Still not fixed?

Remove the rear trim panel, you will find the ground behind it.

What year is your G2, do the daytime running lights, [DRLs] work properly? 94

Its a 1990… the DRLs do not work… someone suggest that it might the the DRL relay… he has a spare and will try if that works, if it does then its awesome…

If you look here in the circled part… theres a wire that goes down into the rear bumper…

On the driver side, there is no wire… is there supposed to be a wire also? where the wire goes, i felt the rubber part but theres no hole to go through.

any idea? is that where the ground suppose to go?

Those leads are probably for the licence plate lights, what color are the wires inside the convoluted tubing?

Whats with all the red tape???94

well, anyways, i got a friend whos says it might be the DRL relay and has a spare hes willing to test… if it fixes the problem, then i will buy it off him…

i have no idea what that red tape is for… but when i went to the junkyard, apparently, theres a few G2s, when tape around the wires like the one in my pic…
