PROJECT: Free Integra. DirtyDA9's LSVTEC

First off, yes, I got this beautiful DA for free… You heard right, free! From my mom’s boyfriend, it was his old DD. The headgasket went on it and the tensioner did as well, so he didn’t feel like paying for it since he just bought a brand new car. This car is a completely stock 1991 Integra stick shift. Interior is perfect, so is the exterior, except for the paint and the dreaded honda rust above the rear wheels. No dents or dings on any pannel. So the project began.

Shitty cameraphone pix the day I brought it home:

You can see how dirty the engine is…

Let the madness begin!

Getting painted bronze, don’t worry.

Rusty filter :thud:

nice and clean

And last but not least, my favorite picture, soon to be my avatar hopefully.

Plans… Paint car white, roof black, cf hood, cf hatch lid, bronze wheels, and slammed like a 5 dollar hooker… And eventually, BOOOST

UPDATE:

I was having such a hard time getting this car started.
First problem: No spark - replaced igniter and coil, spark problem fixed.
Then: No fuel pump - Resoldered main relay, fuel problem fixed.
Still wouldn’t start.

Then I did a compression test with terrible results.

150 125 25 30 were my compression numbers.

Then I did a leakdown test and made it into a how to

I’m also in the process of shampoo scrubbing my whole interior, when I got it all out the other day, only thing left is carpet.

How she was before I rattle canned her. Rattle can is temporary.

Painted. Photoshopped the wheels white

8:00 minute head removal lol

UPDATE! 10/30/11

Right now I just have a new LS head with 301 cams in it for the time being until I get everything together to fully build the bottom end and head for my LSVTEC setup.

I just ordered B16 pistons, new piston rings, and ARP rod bolts tonight. That’s just the beginning of MUCH MUCH more to come! Stay tuned g2ic!

good start

Thanks man. This is my first honda, I was always a DSM guy, I have an 11sec talon but I am parting that out right now to fund a fully built LSVTEC Turbo lol

looks like a fun project keep up the good work

Fixed… lol Thanks guys.

This weekend there is a guy coming up to buy my spare 4g63 bottom end with forged internals, for $900, I’m gonna use that money to buy all the internals for my setup. Then when the other guy buys most of my other stuff for 2k, that will go towards paint, turbo setup, some other bolt on’s, b16 tranny, some real nice shocks/springs, control arms, hondata, and a nice little street tune.

Finally got the car started! I need to adjust the idle, and the exhaust is leaking because this new head was missing 3 exhaust studs, I’ll have to take them off the old head. But it started right up!!!

Very nice man. I’m putting together LS/vtec my self and restoring my DA. Going with P73 pistons B16 head. Changed all the bushing with ES and suspension with SKunk2. The best mod I ever did were the bushings. Well worth the time of install. GL with the build. Are you a Green Bay for by chance?? Just curious about the color scheme of the valve cover.

Sounds nice dude. So it’s really worth it to do the bushings? And no I’m actually a buccaneers fan lol. I just like the rasta theme haha I’m going with wrinkle red on the GSR vc.

Just got my B16 pistons, shotpeened ls rods, with ARP rod bolts today!

If I my ask, what made you decide to the Honda route instead of keeping your 11 sec talon?

Yeah man. All my bushings were pretty much crap and I had clunking coming from everywhere. So I went a head and got some bushings. I didn’t order the master kit b/c I plan on getting skunk2 rear camber kit and such so I just got the stuff I wanted to change out. I changed the front LCA, Rear LCA, Front upper control arm, Shifter stabalizer, I have skunk 2 suspension and they came with the strut top hat bushings, I changed the strut mount bushings where they mount to the LCA. radiaus rod bushings on the front crossmember and the trailing arm bushings. I still need to get the compensator arms done sway bar end links. I think that is all of them after that.

I used the hack saw method to remove all of the bushings and sleeves and it went very smooth. I waited a while to do it b/c people were having problems and talked about how it’s a pain in the ass to get the sleeve out or $800+ to have someone install a kit. I went a head and tried it like I said it was well worth it. I split the work into Sat and Sun and didn’t have to rush or anything. Got it all done.

How much did it cost you to shotpeen the rods? I’m about to bring my block to the machine shop in a couple weeks. I was thinking about goinforged rods or shotpeen depending on the price.

Oh snap a Tampa Fan. I’m a Saints fan lol (I live in the WHO DAT NATION capital NOLA). Just played you guys what last week in the Superdome.

Keep us updated man
Ryan

The integra was given to me for free so I figured why the hell not? lol And the talon, well I’m sure you have heard about all the problems DSM’s have, well it’s very true, and I was getting sick of constantly fixing stuff.

And that doesn’t seem to bad of work for all those bushings, especially if it makes such a difference.

The shotpeening was only $10 per rod, so $40 total, some shops may only be like $30, and some may be more than what I paid, but it is very inexpensive.

And it’s quite sad how bad Tampa has been since they won the superbowl in 2002.

Go for the bushing install. If you have press it eliminates the need for the hacksaw to cut the sleeves out. You would just simple press them out. If you start driving the car around on the 20+ year old bushings enough to get used to the slop. Then, you will feel a huge difference when you upgrade. All the suspension working properly together again is nice. I have read mixed reviews about using ES trailing arm bushings but I don’t autocross this car. A lot of people prefer a stock replacement b/c of the design.

Yea, dude the Buccs had a really good franchise building up and then it just went away. Was that win with Shaun King (Tulane)? The Saints need to get it together as well. We lost to the Rams lol. That’s the games we always lose. I honestly couldn’t believe how the first Buccs vs Saints game turned out. But, I think that was like the 3rd road game in a row for them so I had a feeling the Saints would lose. Not to say Tampa didn’t bring it. They won and that’s what happened lol.

Brad Johnson was the starter, King was backup. I think the saints are gonna do really good this year, they just need to step it up a bit.

As for the press, I live across the street from a repair shop, so any time I don’t have something like that, I just go over there, it’s very convenient haha

I converted from DSM as well

I agree with these guys, Bushings are one of the best mods you can do. solid build man!

Thanks dude! I think once I’m done with the LSVTEC build, then I’m going to do a full suspension setup and change all the bushings. I want to drive it for a while before I swap out the bushings so I can feel the drastic change.

Got my idle squared away, sounds awesome, the cam’s lope like a beetch!
