Projectors with HID

Hey guys I have the black housing projector headlights I am thinking of getting an HID kit for it. I was curious if anyone had done this before? also pics please I would like to see how they look. How hard is the installation?

anyone?

Isn’t it just plug and play? You just buy the right size HID bulb for it and it just plugs right into the projector housing. I think most members don’t go this route cuz the black projector lights are kinda ugly cuz of the little nipple by the fog light…

heres my write up in teg tips… lmk what you think

in your case its just a pulg and play kind of deal just buy the 9004 hid kit or what ever the light bulbs you have in there currently are. i got some off ebay for 108 shipped, the quality is mehhh less than great. but its a get what you pay for deal. i did the tsx lights like vincent above. i am happy with my setup. just please dont get anything other than 6000k or less.

Alright heres the deal, if you have the black housing angel eye projectors. ( yes with the nipples for the fog light) it is not simply plug and play. Trust me i did it. the black projectors use an H3 bulb. there is a small reflector in the housing of the headlight that reflects the light back. look carfully and you’ll see it. The problem is the lights are made for a halogen bulb so that reflector sits very close to the bulb. An HID H3 bulb is longer than a halogen bulb because of that metal electrode that goes from the base and over into the top of the bulb. You will not be able to just put an HID bulb into these lights. It will push up on the reflector and spot the bulb from locking down with the clamp. I ended up basically making a spacer out of ABS plastic, notching it so it doesn’t spin and then mounting the bulb on that. you also have to extend out the wire clip that holds the bulb in place and the hook. This mod cannot be done with the lights on the car. It is definately worth it in the end but it was a B@#% to do. Does anyone else have HID’s in the angel eye (Halo) projectors?

H3C xenon bulb works fine on black projectors, it´s 4mm shorter than H3 xenon bulb. It´s just enough shorter to fit into the lamp without touching the reflector in front of the bulb.

don’t do it… it’s not made for hid. the cutoff and output is going to be terrible!

Not to mention the heat difference between a halogen bulb and a true HID bulb. why do you think cars that come with HID’s have a metal housed projector… If you do any longer drives you risk melting the housing.

Ok, those headlights might not be meant for HID´s, but it (H3C-hid) can seriously fit much better than H3-hid, when talked about differences in length and 2 different hid-bulbs when people wan´t to go to hid´s…

I don´t have any light “figure”, “shape”, or what ever you call it in english (output, cutoff?), even on my halogen bulbs. It really sucks ass. So it makes no difference if I make people blind with halogens or HID´s. HID`s propably do it only better. And I might also see where I´m driving at… :stuck_out_tongue:

I can adjust them vertically, but not horizontally. I don´t know why. I know where the adjustment screws are, but it seems that those horizontal ones don´t work. :frowning:

i just tried some h3 hids in some ebay projector housing and i seem to see a very decent cutoff. the bulb is nowhere near the glareguard. the only thing i noticed was that the projector housing will have to be sealed all the way around since light seeps through there and scatters. i was able to test this out since i took the projectors out of the housing. i plan to install these on some ebay clear housing headlights or into some jdm i pieces…
