i have a 92 gsr and i need new engine mounts factory, innovative, and hasport are too much so i was looking at the inserts from prothane. my problem is they say they dont fit gsr model has anyone used them or made them work or is there another company that makes mounts or inserts for my car that isent going to cost me $200+ any help would be nice
You’d be better off fixing them the correct way, ie: replacing them.
no one has used the inserts before i was thinking the ones that have to be pressed in wouldnt it be almost the same as the innovative mounts
Break up your sentences with punctuation dude, makes it much easier to understand where your sentences end and begin.
If you need new engine mounts because yours are old and ripping, inserts are merely a bandaid… ripped mounts + inserts does not equal the quality or durability of an Innovative or HaSport mount.
sorry it was late and i was using my ps3 to make that post. i thought that the inserts where pressed in like the suspension bushings. just so i understand the prothane inserts only support the rubber that is already in the mount and dont replace it
Exactly.
Thanks for the help. ill get the innovative mounts then.
I used the Energy Suspension engine mount inserts (not the kind that need to be pressed in) because my mounts were shot. It made a HUGE difference and its been plenty reliable. Im not sure if they make them for the GSR, but when I bought the master kit for the entire car it cost me less than $200.
I hope you replaced that mount along with the inserts. using inserts with already ripped mounts is a bad idea and just puts un-neccisary stress on the inserts them selfs.
why would that matter?? when u buy the inserts ur removing the old rubber from the actual mount housing and putting in a full urethane replacement, it has the same strength and reliability as just buying a full mount kit, just isnt as pretty on the outside as per say a set of innovative mounts
you dont remove the rubber from the mount. the insert only fills the voids between the each little rubber connection point
so ur trying to tell me that this fits inside that lil mount with the rubber?? i sure dont think so. now if hes just putting in some urethance around it to help stabilize yea, thats ghetto and bad, but this replaces the rubber
Uhm no, those don’t replace the rubber that comes on the stock mounts…
This is correct.
Ta dah!
Using mount inserts to fix a torn mount is bad news… as BLKACK said, it puts undue stress on the insert.
lol makes sense then, ive never seen a diagram like that before…just saved me some cash cuz i was gonna order tho, but instead ill just get the hasport or innovative…sorry OP for cluttering your thread lol
