Prothane vs Energy Suspension Motor Mount Inserts

Hmmmm:
I would have to disagree with the “they vibrate too much” theory. Yes they are a much stiffer alternative to stock mounts but its for a great reason IMO. The traction advantages of having them is invaluable, and this is coming from a “non-drag” guy.

I would put it like this: If your rolling around in a car that is a primary driver and your having to put your girlfriends mom in the car occasionally :naughty: , and your worried about the raised eyebrow look of, “whats wrong with your car,” then don’t bother. But, if you’d be willing to run a coil over system with pillow mounts, you could handle the extremity of inserts.

I just didn’t like them because it took the “plush” feel out of my G2. I do miss the traction benefits, but not enough to put them back in. I say if you are an avid drag racer/autocrosser…they are a must.

from what I’ve heard, it’s the Prothane mounts that cause a lot of vibration.

I actually have my ES mount inserts hangin on my wall waiting to be put in, but haven’t gotten around to it yet.

i have all solid urethane mounts and ya, its kinda embarrassing when im driving people… but hey it improved my launch and shifting is much smoother. im really cutting down on the ‘racing’ so i might just get oem ones for a more comfortable ride. sometimes it feels as if the vibration works its way up my spine and into my head… or is that the ringing from the exhaust lol

LOL thanks for the replys, i made up my mind and will be getting the es inserts just as long as i get a little viberation i’m good as i am building my g2 for n/a drag car… i’ll keep post pics once the motor is in my car

i just switched to skunk2 coilovers, and repllaced half of my bushings with ES (didnt have time this weekend for the other half). Ill tell ya what, the springs made for a much harsher ride than the bushings did. Compared to the bushings i had in (the 13 y/o rubber ones that dry rotten themselves out of existance) this is SMOOTH SAILLING. The other thing to keep in mind is that you cant buy oem bushings. You have to buy the whole piece that it comes in (in the lower strut mount shock bushing in the lower control arm can only be replaced by buying a whole new lower control arm) And to wrap this up, after installing these bushings and springs, i drove 500 miles home from out of state… and the ride home was MUCH more comfortable than the one out.

I don’t really drive other people around, as a matter of fact I am thinking to take out the passanger seat(backas are already gone), so I love my Hard bushing motor mount kit.

Having the master kit and motor mounts. Would not go back to OEM if they were free:D Love them, Love them. Install, bump your idle about 50 to 100 revs. Good to go.

my azenis are the harshest things on my car now. followed by the 550lb springs, then probably the solid mounts, but thats only at idle.

anywho, what are your guys thoughts on the inserts’ fitment into the mount? im gonna do the tranny swap soon and the front mount is broken apart. im wondering if i should fill them with urethane also or are the inserts tight enough to compensate? do they provide any movement like the stock design or do they actually fill in all holes for a seemingly solid mount?

i just put the motor mount inserts in about 3 weeks ago, and it only vibrates at idle, so i just keep my hand off the wheel when im sitting at a stop light, it’s no big deal, get em and stop breaking mounts

What was the number stamped on the rear mount insert? I got two pair in my kit, and gave one to a friend. Hopefully it was not the wrong one…

My car is a 93 LS 5 spd.

I have the front one in, and while it does vibrate quite a bit, I can live with. Especially considering the front mount was totally destroyed when I removed it…

werd…ES bushings help mis-shifting…

I have ES poly inserts on the front mount. and full ES poly rear mount(not isnearts, the entire monut bushing is repalced) and for me. witht aht rear mount it vibratse lieka mofo at idle… I bumped my idle to 1,250 so it doesn’t vibrate

i duno the numbers, but the rear mount i took out of my car was different than the one i put in, one of the inserts fit one, and the other fit the other mount.

damn i better put mine then huh?

i did custom polyurathane inserted mounts…

got a tube of polyurathane, and a caulk gun, then filled em, then let it dry for a full 24 hours, then it worked like a dream… really good throttle response, reduced wheel hop, n cheap…

im going to need to do the rear soon though… havent goten around to it…

edit:

i own page 2

FYI the automatic rear mount is slightly different than the manual, but the es insert will fit with a little force. the front mount insert design are both identical, however the automatic is slightly wider (beefier for the added weight i assume).

cheapest ive found the shifter bushings for are $9.72 at www.inlinefour.com however the motor mounts i got for like 29. gonna stop by their store today and pick em up.

i believe the rear mount is 1086 (driverside), 1087 (passenger) for 90-91; front is 1082 (driver), 1083 (passenger). so 1084/1085 must be for 92-93 rear.

im with Dan. theres just about as much vibration in neutral as when the auto was in gear with my urethane filler (front filled solid, rear stuffed while on car). i was looking forward to a smoother idle… i might put back my stuffed rear if i ever get a chance to. or maybe ill use a softer material like silicone/caulk or a combination of hah!
