My motor mounts has gone bad and i ordered some Energy Suspension Mount Inserts…How do i get the inserts inside of the mount? Are Energy Suspension Mount Inserts worth it?Can they wear out? What are the pros and cons about energy suspension mount inserts?
I haven’t done it personally, but my cousin did that to his R.
1-you have to do all 3 or else the car will vibrate badly
2-the rear mount is the hardest to do
3-it eliminates wheel hop
4-it’s easier to “peel out”
5-shifting feels quicker and tighter
6-at startup there is some initial roughness but once the engine is idling, it’s very smooth
How much did you pay for them? My cousin paid $30 but that almost sounds too cheap.
That price sounds about right. I don’t know how to install these, but I would guess that you press the old out and put the new ones in. I installed the ES bushing kit on my car and I had to press out the old and replace with the new. New slides in. But I would suggest greasin the ISH out of them since they are prone to squeaks, well the suspension ones are, don’t know for the motor mounts. But couldn’t hurt, and also the hassle later on.
I first bought the Prothane motor mount inserts and installed them. they have inserts for the left, right, and rear motor mounts. The hardness of the polyurethane used for these mount inserts is comparable to the hardness of concrete. I installed them and after a 2 minute test drive removed the left and right ones. EVERYTHING in the car rattled and the sound of the engine more than doubled. I left the rear one in and drove it for a month like that. Everyone asked me why my car sounded so loud and seemed to run rough and shake the whole car. It was the rear motor mount insert that i had left in there.
Finally the day came when i put in my new Energy Suspension motor mount inserts. These were easier to install and their hardness was comparable to the stock rubber. Instantly the car seemed to be so much better. vibration and noise volume were about 5% over stock. I checked the amount of engine movement and it was approximately 1 to 2 degrees. much better than stock (10 or so). since i installed them about 2 months ago I hardly ever notice that they are there.
great review. i thought they were all created equal, as they’re both respected companies of those polyurethane products. your post was very helpful for future reference.
He ain’t lying. I put in the prothane driver’s side inserts only and the engine is a lot louder and the car shakes a lot. They are extremely hard too. But I guess it doesn’t bug me enough to get rid of them because my wheel hop is gone and I feel like I have better control of the car.
I thought they were created equal also so i figured the prothane kit would be the one to get. but then i got them and i couldn’t stand them. I ended up at a tuner shop in town a few days later where they had accord inserts on display and i noticed that they were soft and not rock hard like the prothane ones so i had to order a set and try them. I was thinking about keeping the prothane ones though in case i ever go full race on any of my integras. but if there is someone here who wants a set, i would probably let them go for 5 or 10 bucks shipped (depending on shipping) Oh btw, i must have ordered the wrong set or got the wrong set b/c my drivers side motor mount only has one gap in it and the prothane mounts has 2 tabs to fit in the gaps so i had to hack one of them off.
Originally posted by zero_effect My motor munts have tears in them and my engine shakes like a mofo. Would energy suspension inserts fix that or do I need new motor mounts?
I had a 92 Prelude Si with mad torque, and it would rip the front mounts like nothing, so I just threw some energy suspension inserts in it, and that was the end of my mount problems. The only thing I didn’t like was the extra vibration at low idle speeds. But remember, this was a 2.3DOHC with a hell of a lot more harmonics, so the 1.8 should be just fine with them.
yeah, my ES made no real difference at idle, but everything feels firmer through the gears. i have a question, though…
the instructions were pretty confusing… the kit came with i think 3 mounts, but i thought it said only 2 were used in the DA, front and back. the other looked like it would fit in the driver’s side, but i had no idea how to get that mount out… there’s a bolt you would have to access from under the mount. how do you get at that? from under the car, and about 3 feet of ratchet extensions?
I think the 3rd one is for the 88-91 civic/crx since the front mount is basically the same between the two. I’m pretty sure it says in the instructions that one of those won’t be used.
i want to get es motor mount inserts but my motor mounts are broken i was wondering if i could still use these inserts or is it recomended that i change the motor mounts first?did a search but did not find answers. tia
Unless you like a lot of vibrations inside the car, Id suggest replacing with OEM. While the ES are good mounts, Ive heard lots of people complain about how much they transfer vibrations. No personal experience though, not yet anyway. Gimmie another month or two;)
Dan (G2Guru) used to have them and he swapped them out real quick for some OEM ones because they vibrate WAY too much.
They are not practical for daily driven applications unless you want an uncomfortable ride.
I beg to differ… I have the ES motor mount inserts, and the car vibrates a bit at idle, but not enough that I would consider it uncomfortable. And yes, my car is for the most part daily driven.
Honestly, I think it is one of the best bang for the buck mods I have done. Did an excellent job of clearing up some nasty wheel hop.
