Prototypes: DIN gauge pod and trunk support

DIN gauge uses Autometer mini gauges and it made out of acrylic sheet. Glued to aftermarket double-DIN bezel.

Trunk support is made from lightweight double-wall plastic that is readily available at sign stores. Fit is pretty decent and covers more area than the stock one (granted you lose space because of the wheel). I was thinking about incorporating a raised/hinged cover for the wheel itself. Note that I do not have the trunk carpet.

Thoughts and criticisms (good and bad) welcomed.

gauge pods look very good

Depends on how crazy you want to get but you could build a false floor just above the height of the spare so the trunk was flat. You could hinge it wherever and have different compartments even. And get some oem carpet to cover it or even use spray adhesive to attach speaker box carpet. I used to love tinkering with that sorta thing when I still had a stereo system in the car.

That’s a good idea about the speaker box carpet. That’ll definitely make it look more OEM. If the stock size of the plastic was a little bigger, it would fit in the cavity perfectly. I’m planning on drawing up a schematic of it to share with the club if anyone else wanted to try it.

you can get the gauges and cut out the panel from a mk1 vw cabriolet console
