Put the rear ST sway bar on, should I put the front on too?

So I decided to go out and buy the ST sway bars last weekend. I put the rear one on and it got rid of soooo much of my understeer. Now I have to decide, should I leave it alone, or should I put the front one on too? I’d like to get advice from peeps who have done it like this, put the rear on, drove it, then put the front one on. Do you like having just the rear on, or both better? I can’t decide. (oh yeah and I searched through 7 pages of stuff with the words “sway bar” in it and didn’t find much info)

I’d leave it alone and run the rear bar only.

HTH

What i would do is run it like that for a week or 2 then put the front on and see what you like better. That’s what i did and i still have my front ST bar on. If you do want to sell the front “new”, that’s a different story hehe :). HTH.

i would know someone to buy it if u decide not to keep it

I think it depends on what you want to do with your suspension and what you’ve already done. The front sway bar will get rid of almost all of your body roll but will give you back some understeer. If you plan on getting adjustable shocks or getting springs with a stiffer front spring rate then you’ll be able to dial some of the understeer out and that would be better IMO. If you don’t plan on dropping dime on adjustables then don’t waste your time by putting the front ST bar on and just sell it.
There are other ways to get rid of understeer like wheel pressures and transferring weight but I’m not sure that would be as effective as adjustable shocks and stiffer front springs.

I’m already riding on illumina’s with sportlines. I ride with the struts at max stiff both front and rear already. Before I put the rear ST bar on I had nasty understeer. I don’t seem to have to much body roll with this setup. I hate decisions.

SOL1D, how much would your buddy buy it for? Just out of curiosity.

Stiffer front springs would increase understeer. Stiffer rear springs should produce the desired result.

joe-

i put both bars on, runnin blues and progress sport springs (dont forget all those 3 strut bars)-
i liek the feel of both bars, i think it’s very stable and i can take turns faster than id ever imagine. im considering a progress 22mm rear just to stiffen the hell out of everything. but just to say, i’d put the front on, and try it: hell with a friend i’d take 10 minutes to take one off and put the other one on for youserlf, but me:

FRONT GOES ON!

ditto. i still have mine on. im gonna try teh stock one again soon to see if my tastes have changed.

do all you guys have poly endlinks? i didnt get them for teh front, so i had to cut up some energy suspension bushings cuz they where too thick. ive only done this for the 2 on the top on both sides. should i just get the es endlinks w/ poly bushings from autozone?

or maybe i can get an inbetween deal if i use the poly bushings with the stock bar…

Not sure, i need to ask, but would u be willing to sell?

It depends for how much, I mean I paid 230+tax for both of them last weekend, I’m not going to sell it for $50 brand new, I’d rather just try it out for that much. So it really depends how much he’s willing to pay. FYI, the front one only is 120 + shipping at summit. I’m really thinking about putting it on and seeing though. If I put it on, and didn’t like it i’d be willing to sell it cheeper cause it would be “used” (if I don’t like it though, it will only be used for a couple of miles)HTH’s

i bought the rear only, that was what most people recommended to me at the time, car feels solid, putting the front on also will kinda be putting your car back to stock ← not literally, but u know what i mean.

I have the ST rear bar only.
Isn’t the front stock bar thicker than the ST front bar?
I remember this being one of the reasons why I didn’t get the front ST bar.
I also put on the complete ES bushing kit, so I have the endlinks & ES sway bar poly bushings.

I’ve always wondered though how much better or worse it will be with the front ST bar.

I say try it.
Let us know how it goes.

If it’s that much better then I’ll pick one up.

actually i think the size is exactly the same except the st bar is solid where the stock is hollow.

stageup: the more I think about it the more I think I should just try it.

white-hot: I’m not sure what the diameter is. Off the top of my head I remember 15/16 for the ST, but like I said I’m not sure if this is correct, or how much it differs from the stock one.

Everyone: What do you guys think about putting the ST bar on front and then backing the struts down? I was thinking about the comment regarding body roll, and I don’t have any with the struts set stiff, but when I back them off, I do have body roll. I’m thinking of putting the bar on and lossening the front up. Hopefully the bar will prevent roll, but having the front “softer” than the rear will help me keep the balance I currently have. What do you think?

No the ST front is just a tad bit bigger than the stock front sway bar.

yea just put it on and try it, you have nothing to lose, everyone has diff tastes. you could still sell it afterwards as slightly used if you don’t like it.

the st front is about 24mm, 1mm over stock, which equates to a little under 20% stiffer

If you want to get rid of understeer and try the bar why don’t you soften up the front end of your shocks. That should help dial out the understeer while the swaybar could cut out more body roll.

Of course I don’t have any experience with sway bars, but I do have illuminas. So do what ever you want.
