Question about half size radiator

When using the civic half size radator do you have to change out anything…i.e thermostats or anything like that.

If you could post quickly I have nothing to do today but put on my halfsize radiator and see how much room that saves me for my turbo. Turbo goin on in the next two weeks.

no the radiator does not interfere with the thermostat or any other components…
Although if the thermostat hasnt been changed in a long time it would be a good idea…
You may have difficultly with the stock upper and lower hoses being too big but not by much… What I did was just wrap some electrical tape around the inlet and outlet a few times so the hoses fit snug…
Im hoping to go turbo within a week or two aswell, keep us posted…

hope that helps.

Ok. I’ll go ahead and put it on tomorrow. But im wondering. Our radiator has two fans what do I do with the extra fan. Is it needed for some other purpose. Yea I have a thread on here with my progress on my turbo build.

Do you have AC? If you have two fans, one of them should be part of the AC system.

Yes i have a/c. Shit barely works but its there. Does the a/c need the fan to function.

yes it does.

Well I guess bye bye a/c…didnt really wanna take out the a/c. With the setup I have I can retain the full radiator. But I just wanted some extra room. Im using a real RevHard manifold so I know it would fit but everything looks tight.

I’d think with some minor fabrication you could make some bracktes/mounts to remount the fans. In addition you can also install some slim fans if space is tight. You can also install the slim fans in front of the A/C condensor to save further space. Not all is lost just because of the fans.

any one ever have any problems with over heating with a half rad?
im slowly getting rid of stuff i don’t need. i need a new radiator any way so i figure it would shave a few pounds.

You can run a half size all day tubro’d so, no you wont have any problems.

If you go 1/2 rad isn’t it recommended that it at least be dual core?

I donno, i ran my old EG civic with a b18 turbo as a daily, for almost 2 years. Was a good weekend warrior also. was a good 13 sec car. I never had problems. Just make sure you get a good radiator cap with a good pressure. 1.3 is usually good.

is everyone mounting their half radiator in the car or isit just sitting there? If its mounted can you post pics. I am having clearance issues. The civic radiator is taller than the oem one with the little nipple parts on the bottom of the radiator.

these are hitting my crossmember.

Was the Civic that the rad came out of an automatic by chance? They look like they might be for the cooling lines for the automatic transmission. If you’re not running an auto, you can probably remove them. They look like they’re just bolted in.

i’m not sure if its an auto but radiator but my original one out of my DA was a manual one and it had one of these nipples.

yeah thats for the transmission oil cooler. you can remove those if they’re getting in the way.
