okay, so just a few thousand miles ago I changed my oil over to snythetic. I am using the Moble 1 oil that is advertised to last for 15,000 miles + the moble 1 filter. The guy at advanced said the filter is “garunteed” to last as long as the oil, but thats not why I’m posting.
my question is this: Can I really wait 15,000 miles before I change my oil? I have a tendency to drive my car like I stole it and was debating on changing my oil a little sooner than what they had advertised (my way of saying I’m sorry for driving it so hard…lol) but I’m not sure how much sooner to change it.
Well changing your oil more frequently is not going to hurt your engine but rather help it more in keeping it free of metal bits the engine produces. Sure you can wait until the recommended intervals but it all depends on how old your car is and how hard you drive it.
If you say you drive the DA like you stole it and would rather change the oil more frequently, I suggests you just to use your regular normal Kragen/Autozone synthetic blend oil cuz it’s going to be cheaper since you’re changing it alot… no need for Mobile 1 type of oil cuz it does add up and can be very expensive. That’s just my .02
Unless you replace the filter 3 times I wouldn’t do it. The filter must be replaced at most at every 6k miles. At my work we write the stickers for 6k on synthetics. My friend with a turbocharged VW (1.8t GTI) changes his every 3k, and he uses mobile one. I replace mine every 2.5k and run organic 10w40 castrol.
Driving hard my recommendation will be to change it every 6k on a N/A engine.
I use Mobil 1 and an OEM Honda Filter. My owners manual for my car says like 7k for oil changes…I generally change my oil every 3-5 thousand miles. There is no way in the world I would change my oil after drive’n on it for 15000 miles…thats like almost a year of drive’n if not a year…And if you say you drive your car hard then I would change it at least every 5k…Mobil 1 is a great oil and I’ve used several synthetics and they seem to be the best at least for my DA(93 LS).
no. i wouldn’t even let my engines oil go pass 3 to 5k in between changes. i’m using the same oil as you. but i wouldn’t trust what it say’s about lasting 15,000 miles. if you value your engine then keep changeing every 3 to 5k.
My main worry about using synthetic oil in my 91 is the fact that it may burn or leak it before the recommended change interval. I’ve changed just about every leaking gasket but I still get leaks from brand new OEM gaskets after only a few thousand miles. I think I’ld be too confident that my next oil change isn’t for another 5k and forget to check the oil. Also the fact that it’ll just burn it before the oil change and be a waste of money.
i havent had any oil troubles before. I only leaked a tiny bit through the drain plug, but it was stripped. I ended up just replacing the oil pan and gasket. I haven’t leaked a drop since. And I changed my oil 3000 miles ago and I just recently checked and it still read full. maybe I’m just lucky.
i use the cheapest possible oil. doesnt make a lick of difference IMO. as long as its clean. buddy from japan told me they usually change there oil every 2000 kilometers as common practice. thats why i say cheap ass oil, short intervals
i run mobil 1 and still change mine every 3k miles. my car is beat on often and it is my daily driver. i don’t trust waiting that long to change my oil. when changing the first time i would check the color and consictasy (sp?) of the oil. base your oil change intervals on that. thats the only thing i trust.
