question about oil change on high miliage motor.

my car has about 170k miles. i need it to stay running ass well as possible. i race my friend down at the track about once or twice a month. other than that i take it real easy on the car. what is the best oil and oil filter that i should use? i searched for it but didnt find what i was lookin for.

170k is not that high, why you even worried about what oil to put in? if you are, then maybe you should try those high milege motor oil…i think from quaker state? just get yourself some castrol 10w-30 a fram oil filter and your good to go.

well the thing is this car HAS to last me another 2 years so i have to baby it. and possibly stop racing all together (like a crackhead quitting crack cold turkey…)

Yeah really just keep up with your routine maintenance. Do you live in harsh weather conditions, basically do you get winter? As far as whats the best oil and oil filter for you to use there really is no such thing since there has been no failures proven to been caused by using this type of oil or filter. But I’ll recommend you a good Fram filter and some oil designed for high mileage engines. My buddy puts Pennzoil high mileage 10w30 in his engine with 300 000+ km on it and it works great.

i would have to say either some kind of synthetic motor oil and a bosch filter… works great… i would try considering royal purple or even mobil 1.

mobil one oil and filter for me

full synthetic is what my motor bleeds

im with 90dals. i have 184,000 miles on my beast and i run mobil 1 filter and 10w-30 oil. I get the one with the gold caps on it.

well i live in louisiana… enough said right… we get a harsh winter and a very very harsh summer. it was like 90 degrees today…

I use Castrol GTX 10/30 and PureOne oil filters on my B18A1. I change my oil anywhere between 3k and 5k miles (usually closer to 5k) and my engine is very clean inside. I have 303K miles and rap it out to redline a few times a week. But drive like a granny the rest of the time.

It still pulls great and gets 32 mpg average with free-flowing I, H, E, 7.5lb Fidanza flywheel, and Exedy clutch. Idles at a rock solid 750rpms. A/C still works even, lol.

I am convinced that the B-series Honda/Acura engines are the 6th miracles of the world. As soon as I get a good job again, B20VTEC:rockon:

well mine idle hunts badly and my a/c doesnt work. im starting to worry about my tranny. but it is still a good car considering its 15 years old.

a harsh summer is 90… ha… we hit at least 120 here every summer…

anyway, i always use valvoline full synthetic. never put pennzoil in any car. i have seen some of the studies done on engine oil, and pennzoil actually starts to build up hard white crystals when in high heat situations.

if you don’t want to pay for valvoline synthetic, go with mobil, it’s the same oil that you buy at the honda dealerships. i wouldn’t worry too much about teh oil filter, just don’t buy the cheapest one there.

^^^ You aren’t figuring humidity, 90 in louisiana+humidity=heat index of around 110, give or take 5 degrees. I’ve spent one full summer in Missouri, misery is the best way to describe it. There is nothing like getting out of the shower, drying off, and being drenched in sweat 2 seconds later.

To answer the OPs question, get some mobil 10/30 and an oem filter. stay away from oils designed for “high milage” engines. these tend to cause the oil seals to break down over time. By design they include a chemical that causes the seal it comes into contact with to swell, stopping leaks temporarily. If you like your valve stem seals, you won’t buy high milage oil.

Im all about the mobil 1 full synthetic and an OEM filter right from acura. works great for my integra at 300xxxkm

honostly if you regularly change your oil when its supposed to, then i dont see why you need to upgrade to better, more expensive oil. just maintain your vehicle

dont’ use Bosch
