i had a question about removing the bottom half of the air box. i removed the bottom half… and then bolted my air filter to the top half of the air box…then it says put top half of the air box back in and connect it to the intake pipe… but the problem is the intake pipe was connected to the bottom half which i removed… so is the top half air box just suppose to hang there not screwed on to anything or not connected to the intake pipe …that doesnt sound right to me… i have a 91 ls… but im guessing all the air boxes are the same…
ps. is the intake pipe that black plastic pipe that starts in the middle of the headlights and runs down to were the bottom air box used to be before i removed it … correct me if im wrong…
yea the 92-93 must be different because i dont see a way to connect my intake pipe back onto the top half of the air box. because theres no hole for it… can anyone else help ??
Yes it is just suppose to hang there. What it means is connect the intake pipe back up to the intake manifold because you have removed the whole intake from the car to do the job. So all you basically gonna have is the top half off the box there, with no more bottom. Right back if you have any more questions.
thanks for the help but i just decided to put it back on… removing the intake resonator was enough for one day… but like u were sayin about the intake pipe and connecting it back to the manifold… confused me… sorry im a newb with cars…
ok so if i do just let it hang there will it give me any kind of gain? thanks… also that black pipe that was connected to the bottom box im asuming that was the intake pipe… that just stays open not connected?
nevermind i figured out what u were sayin… but whats the black little tube ( not the big rubber one ) that starts out in between the lights and goes to the air box thanks , sorry so many questions
you’re confusing with the wrong part of the intake. He is talking about the main piece of intake piping the part that goes from the air box to the throttle body.
here (quotes from teg tip)
“Remove the top half of the box from the intake pipe and your air filter from the car and set it outside” Thats the 2nd step. here you are removing the top part of the box from the main part of piping (the part that goes to the throttle body)
“Then put the top half of the box (complete with screwed in filter) in to the intake pipe like it was and put the box back where it used to be” This is the last step. Which is exactly opposite of the 2nd step.
The extra piping you’re thinking of (the one that goes to the bottom half of the air box and then routes to near the hood latch, will just stay there, hooked to nothing.
With all that said. This teg tip isn’t that good of one. Removing the air box is a MUCH better way to do it. Why you might say? this is why:
1)You will get colder air (thus maybe some actual usable power, and not just sound… or even decreased power due to hot air)
2) Everything is secured better. By retaining the bottom of the box the intake is still bolted down. If you remove the bottom of the box the top half is free to move about. Now this doesn’t hurt perfomance or anything… but its ghetto and can wear of some of the paint in the engine compartment from where it rubs against things (trust me, i know… when i was new to the teg scene i was didn’t know as much and did some sort of stupid mods to my car… one of them was removing the bottom half of the air box. Sure it sounded good. But now i’ve got 2 spots in my engine bay where the paint has been rubbed off, which REALLY irritates me.

hehe, you figured it out while i was responding. The smaller tube you were getting confused by is where the stock intake draws in all its air. If you look closely at the entire intake system this is the only place where the intake is actually open to suck in air. Most people just assume that the whole going down to the resonator is another source of air. Well, when you pull your resonator out, you’ll realize its just a big sealed box.
thanks…i figured it out …mabye ill take the bottom half back off again and just let the thing hang there if it will give me more air flow or colder air… or i might just try that ghetto teg tip making your own ram air… i wonder which would work better no bottom half or cheap ram air… well later all

removing the resonator (also a teg tip) will most likely work better than both of them.
onlt thing i know diff. about the 92-93 air box is the vacuum break ,if water gets into airbox that little tube coming off the 92-93 airbox with the mini filter , air will suck through their.
