question for the pros

what do i do when my distributor rotor’s retaining screw (the hex screw) is stripped??? if you don’t understand, its just the lil screw that holds the rotor in place … inside the distributer… i just need to get the rotor out so i can replace it cuz weird noises are comming from there (high pitch and grindy:bawl: ) couple weeks ago my spark plugs got all burnt out, replaced w/ cheap bosch cuz no money yet, and now the noise starts up… trying to change the whole spark, cap, rotor set up, but need to get rotor out… PLEASEEE HELP ME>>>> I’m HELLA desperate…

REally desperate for help… ps… will i need a new distributor core if i can’t get it out? and how much does it cost…

need the best of G2IC NOW>>>

seee if you can saw a slit into it (although I don’t reemeeber there being enough room) with a swiss army knife saw or someething and use a flatheead to get it out.

The noise is probably the bearing. If you disassemble the distributor you can replace this bearing. Its a pain but alot cheaper than another distributor. As for the rotor screw I would try one of those Craftsman easy out tools there showing on tv. If that dont work then just drill it out.

I’d take the whole distributor off to make it easier to work on (just make sure of it’s orientation). Then just use a dremel or a hacksaw or something like E-DA9 said, and make a slot in it to fit a flathead screwdriver in. If that doesn’t work, you’ll probably have to drill it out, unless you can get some vise grips or something around it. Oh, and in case you didn’t know already, the hex screw is usually metric (should be unless it’s been replaced with something else), so you need to use metric allen wrenches on it. I forget the exact size though, I wanna say 2.5. Good luck

thanks ya, i’ll try that… my car still rolls around, but feels like a geo … :frowning: ahhhhhhh… teg owners nightmare… but i’ll take the whole thing off tomarow and try to saw a lil off of the screw… yeah the screw is a metric… but the dumb-A5s… who had the car b4 stripped it bare. so not much i could do but ask for help from ya …

thanks yo,

That seems to be a problem here in MN, When I stripped mine, I drilled down the center of it and used the old fashioned easy-out tool to remove it. One thing I learned the hard way: use an exact replacement screw, preferably from the honda/acura dealer if possible.

I did tha same thing when i stripped mine in 95’ . cept i used a very thin cut off wheel on my dremel to cut the line to fit correct.

thanks guys… today i’m down w/ the cold… goin around lately so wont be able to take it off… but i’ll update ya on it…

I’m just guessing here…did you disconnect the battery before doing the repairs? If not, maybe you accidentally shorted a fuse…check those. Otherwise I’m at a loss!
