got a free 94 ls dc 421 header from a friend… and was gonna install it on my 93 gsr I know i’ll either have to extend or shorten the pipe connecting the cat … but my question is I was looking at the helms book and noticed that the o2 sensor was by the dipstick instead of by where the bung is on the dc header( which is near the collector)… please clarify this for me otherwise the header is going in the classifieds
the 90-91’s have the 02 sensor up on the primaries of the exhaust manifold (by the dipstick). This is because its a one wire (non heated) sensor and it gets better readings when its further upstream in the exhaust flow. Your gsr will have the o2 sensor on the top side of the a-pipe right before it bolts to the cat…i’m pretty sure its in the same place as the one on your new header.
thanks for confirming… then i guess this should be a 15 min adventure… thanks for saving me time if it wasnt … would of felt like a meatball taking it apart to find out the bung is up by the dipstick lol

really all you had to do was pop your hood. the 02sensor on the 90-91’s is right there in plain sight. If its not there…then obviously its not up top on the primaries.

ps how is the project b17 going for you
good and bad. the motor is in and its running. But i’ve still got some kinks to work out. The vtec solenoid was leaking oil very heavily but i fixed that. However it seems now that there is another smaller leak. I’m hoping though that this new oil is just left over from the previous leak (it leaked oil all down by the head gasket, there are lots of nooks and crannies for it to hide in and maybe its just showing up when the motor gets warm…hopefully). And just the other day it started having a hesitation problem. My first hypotheses are fuel (filter? pump? injectors?), 02 sensor, or possibly something with the distributor (however the cap, rotor, and coil are all brand new). As of now i’ve got about 650 miles on the new motor so she’s still being broken in…but it feels pretty strong, well before the hesitation problem.
i had hesitation problems with mine also when i first bought it with 122k… turned out the fuel filter was the original… looked like there was a gang of spiderwebs and crap in there lol…
my motor is reaching the 155k region… and i’m thinking of doing a rebuild for fi… still contemplating tho school and car addiction is starting to take its toll on my wallet lol

good luck with ur blacksheep b17 [/B]
well, i replaced the fuel filter within the past year and a half, so i doubt thats the problem (as much as i wish it was cause its so much easier and cheaper than everything else). I’ll probably change the filter anyway just to be certain. and when i get some time i need to do some troubleshooting to determine if its the o2 sensor.
today i unplugged the 02 sensor to see if that fixed the problem (from what i’ve read on the boards you can disconnect the 02 sensor and if your problem goes away, then you need a new 02 sensor). well, the hesitation remained for maybe 2-5 minutes, then went away completely…so i got excited, thinking i had solved the problem. But then i hooked the 02 sensor back up to double check (thinking that now if the problem came back i would know its the sensor)…well, the problem didn’t come back. So, now i’m not sure what to think, and i’m really short on time so who knows when i’ll be able to figure it out.
i totally understand the school/car thing. I’m really quite fed up with school actually, but i guess i’ll stick it out.
