I just had my car tinted by a customs shop and i noticed the tint stops at the top of the rear hatch where its shaded by painted dots, does this sound normal? it looks kinda wierd and the line they cut isnt even straight. They told me i have to come back in 2 days for them to touch up haze and position the tint better when dry. what should i expect after touch up?
The dot’s aren’t supposed to be shaded, those are the … “stock tint” to shade the people in the rear seat. If they tinted over that i think it would just start to bubble anyways because it would create little air pockets.
after touchup or whatever, ask them to straighten it up - or just do it yourself with a razor.
some parts are right up to the dots and some arent, between the dots and the tint theres a line of untinted glass at parts, the only thing i can do is trim it evenly across the whole thing so theres a ugly line all the way across.
if i had the tint continued would they be able to match it up right? or maybe i should just spray tint it… right now this tint job looks nowhere near the quality i expected after seeing examples of their work and a friends car they did, her hatch is tinted over the dots and 2 years later looks perfect, not a spec of dust or a bubble to be found unlike mine
The tint won’t stick to the glass it will stick to the raised black dots. You will have air bubbles between 90% of the dots. When I used to tint windows I used to end the tint just below the dots, wait for it to dry a few days then tape everything off and spray paint the inside of the window (dot area) with flat black spray paint.
i took it back to the shop and now they are sending my car to get completly redone at another location
Nice. I usually just had it tinted over the dot matrix. Doesnt bother me if there is bubbles. I think it looks like shit when tint stops at dots.
Actually it is also possible they are not tinting over it due to later Hondas having the radio antenna integrated into the glass, and having it look just like that, in the same area.
depending on the shop that tints it they should have other options for the dot matrix. at my shop we wont tint a car unless they are fully aware of how it will look and what their options are. ask them to put black vinyl instead of tint on the dot matrix, most of the time it will stick and from the outside it is not noticable
