questions on b18a1

so i bought a 93 integra with the b18a1 engine and i’d like to know how you guys would rate this engine. Is it a good candidate for performance parts? Also, what oil would you guys recommend for a b18 with 140k miles?

Bolt on performance mods don’t typically get you very far with a B18a. However, if you’re willing to tear the engine down and put some money into building it up properly, it can deliver some pretty impressive performance. Check the Premier members page to get some ideas on what can be done to these engines.

10w30 is the recommended oil, unless you’re in a colder climate in which case 5w30 is fine. Whether you go to synthetic or not is up to you.

I’ve been advised not to go synthetic because of engine gum up or something of that nature. Should i worry about using a full synthetic on a honda engine?

The oil will get past the seals easier, stay with organic. Synthetic is just plain a waste of money.

It’s a topic that’s still debated – usually far more opinion than fact. I have tried both, and for a while I was convinced synthetic wasn’t worth it, but I’m going to be using Mobil 1 full synthetic this summer. If I were to use my car through the winter, I would DEFINITELY use synthetic as it flows a lot better on cold start ups (I’m talkin -30 or -40 degrees), saving a lot of engine wear.

But again, that’s just based on what I, personally, have read.
