quick help diagnosing this problem

Last week my timing belt snapped off and left my car dead on the road… but i got that replaced and fixed, and the car ran fine… for a few days…

Yesterday my car started to sputter like crazy in 1st gear when I was making a turn and then it did it again and again while moving slowly and finally shut off on me. When starting it back up again it misfired a few times and I was listening to POP POP come out of the exhaust a until it died again. NOW it just wont start. Engine cranks but won’t catch.

Does that sound like a distributor problem or could it be something else (something cheaper). I can’t find a distributor anywhere for this B17A1.

Any help is much appreciated. I want my teg back!

Your lucky it worked after replacing the belt. I would imagine you did some serious damage to your engine and its just now working itself loose - I would check to see if the belt is still aligned properly (no skips) to start.

Also… :wrong:

doh oops

and damn, i hope nothing happened to my indestructable B17A1. otherwise ill have to join g3ic.com boards soon

damn this distributor is a pain in the ass to find too, anyone have any tips on where to get one for a good price? none of the honda dismantlers around here in so-cal have a used one for the B17A1. I’m getting really desperate here :tsk::bang:

just get the parts for the dist. sounds like ur timings off.

I would set the crank at tdc and see if the cams line up. It sounds like its jumped time. Check and see if its getting any spark to the plugs. If its getting a good spark its not the distributor. Check the ground wire from the head to the radiator support, if its loose it will cause the car not to run.

here’s a copy of my own post about the same thing if anyone cares:

it ended up just being the distributer ignition coil, just like some people here thought it would be, cheap fix

stupid me, cant believe i was actually worried, lol

ended up just buying the coil + cap&rotor from the acura dealer for about $100 and than putting it in myself with my mechanic/friend’s help

car runs perfectly again, wheee!
