quick question about alternator

i had my alternator tested and it came out saying the diodes are bad. now i have a hunting idle problem too but it only seems to hunt when the rad fan is actually spinning. so my lights will dim a bit and stuff when i use accessories and i was told this was because of the bad diodes on my alternator so could the bad diodes also be the cause of the hunting idle while rad fan is spinning or no? also if i need a new alternator where do you guys recommend buying one, is there anywhere that has a lifetime warranty around?

Autozone has a lifetime warranty. I had to replace mine when i first got my car. I’ve had it for nine months without it going out.

Napa also has one too. I bought mine from them last year and have not had any problems. They have a decent warranty too.

Thanks for those guys, I don’t have autozone up here in Canada but we do have Napa lol  still no input on the idle hunting though eh?

My 94LS does that,[between 800 and 1200 RPM] sometimes when it warms up and it’s hot out.

A drop in current/voltage, when something comes on like a rad fan or blower motor or even head lights could definitely cause a problem like that as idle, like most things in our cars are controlled by the ECM/ECU and no processor likes current/voltage drops, or current/voltage fluctuation outside spec limits.

Although your alt. problem could definity be causing your “idle hunting” problems, it’s not my problem because mine idle hunts even if nothing is on except the motor, and only till it warms up.
Does your engine idle hunt even after the engine is warm?:hmm:94

yeah in fact it idle hunts only when its warm and the rad fan comes on to cool it off which has got me thinking its electrical.

your’s sound like something to do with the FITV, have you taken a look at that?

I agree on FITV. You might want to check your grounds too. Mine were deteriorated and it was causing all kinds of idle and other issues. Replaced them and everything is good.

FITV???
My problem is not the grounds, take my word for it, I have checked.
I thought it may have something to do with the timing as I run it a little advanced for the 75 shot nitrous ZEX system I run for autocross, but again it only happens for a few min. after starting on hot days. 94
