I have a 92’ GS-R, stock YS1 cable tranny. Is there a way to decrease travel distance from the clutch pedal to the floor? Basically get the pedal closer to the floor. I work at Toyota and the clutch pedal on the FR-S is about half the distance from pedal to floor than my GS-R’s pedal is.
The wonderful world of hydraulics…
So I would have to do a hydro conversion? Poop… Thanks!
I think there is relatively little adjustment as far as total pedal travel.
There may be some adjustment, but nothing drastic to get to that ‘half’ way mark of the FRS.

Ohhh okay, well I can live with that lol. Thanks!
Check out your Helms manual, there’s multiple adjustment points. It’s hard to understand what you’re trying to accomplish by how you’ve worded it. Are you talking about engagement point or simply where the pedal rests in its free position? Your engagement point, if adjusted properly, should already be pretty close to the bottom of the pedal stroke.
What I got is he wants to lessen total pedal travel from rest to floor… I was under the impression that there isn’t a TON you can do because of the spring that’s connected to the pedal in the car.
Yeah, overall travel can’t be changed much. But so much of it is freeplay that I don’t see what the big deal is. Engagement point is really what’s important. Personally I moved my engagement point way up because I’m short and with my seat and harnesses it’s hard to get the pedal to the floor and I was grinding on quick upshifts.
Just loosen the plastic nut on the clutch cable adjustment at the transmission/clutch arm. It will move the engagement point closer to the floor. To Colin’s point I also moved mine up because my legs are short.
I do think this is an interesting question.
The lever would have to be shortened, to make a shorter travel in the pedal. But, it would probably be very ‘heavy’.
The pedal itself could be shortened or the pivot point moved farther away from the cable. I can’t visualize this right now for some reason though.
Maybe if both the pedal and lever were modified you could reduce the travel without making it too difficult/hard to disengage the clutch.
It would only really be worth it if it were a track warrior though. Unless you just had the time, tools and want for it.
