quick question about this datalogging cable and how its used

i was going to ask this on pgmfi.org but their site is down again. but anyways.

if i order this cable

http://www.moates.net/product_info.php?cPath=49&products_id=79

and hook it up to my P08 ECU that is chipped to run my B16A. then plug in the USB cable to my laptop and use the program ECU Control that i downloaded from pgmfi.org will that work?

before i order the cable i basically just want to confirm that this is all i need to make this work so i can see whats really going on with my car all the time

and with that cable and ECU Control and a laptop i can only observe the engine right? or can i make changes too and will it save?

thanks guys.

The data cable you listed is pretty typical. It logs data from the ecu. If you want to make changes to the fuel or ignition maps, you need to somehow change the ROM in the ecu. For that you either need a chip emulator, or a chip burner.

A typical setup for tuning would include that data cable, freelog (to log engine parameters from ecu), a ROM emulator (the moates ostrich is popular) and a program to change fuel/ignition maps (crome (OBD-1) and uberdata (OBD-0) are popular). The full version of crome includes datalogging ability, and a feature called “autotune”.

alright cool thanks for the info

if you haven’t bought the stuff, you might check out this.

Its not me selling the stuff, but it looks like a good price.
