quick question----leaky problem

there is a hose, on the passenger side of the my 93 ls, behind the axles, coming from the firewall…it has just recently started leaking water. i am not sure what it is exactly, it runs right into the firewall it seems, and doesn’t appear to have been cut/burned/ripped in anyway. is this just a tube that passes run off from the AC??? i am not too sure since i rarely use the ac, but it is unnormally hot and i do a lot of freeway driving and it appears to just be water, but it has kind of a sweet taste to it…and it is perfectly clear, but a little greasy??? any suggestions?

That would be your a/c drain hose.

but it has kind of a sweet taste to it…and it is perfectly clear, but a little greasy???

I hope your not tasting everything you see leaking from the car.:stuck_out_tongue:

It sounds like your heater core has developed a hole. The hose is the drain for the A/C condensor / heater core. If you don’t use your heater the core can be by passed by taking the two heater hoses off the firewall and hooking them together with a piece of pipe and two hose clamps. It it was just watercomming out of the hose it is just your ac condensor doing its job, but since you said it has a sweet smell and is greasy it is coolant leaking. Check your coolant level to make sure.

This is correct. The same thing happened to me recently, and it is just the drain. (condensation)

There is a good reason for that. The coolant does not flow into the heater core unless the vents are on. There is a valve on the inline (coolant line from head to firewall) that has a valve attached that only turns on when you adjust the hot cold selector on the dash.
