Since it was 45 degrees yesterday here in the northeast, I decided to take my tranny apart. Reason why im doing this is because. my car/clutch/tranny broke down before Christmas(car would not go in gear). I took out both drivers side axles and intermediate shaft, shift linkage, unbolted rear tranny/block mount, the little front mount and passenger side tranny mount.
Now, I pryed opened the tranny from the top and I tried shaking the living crap out of it and it still wont budge. The tranny is pried open about one inch on the top. Now there is a jack under my oil pan with a piece of wood, but there is nothing supporting the tranny, its just hanging there.
Will that hurt anything? Like the spindle or pilot bearing or main seal? Any suggestiong on trying to pry it out? Ive got all the bolts off the tranny. It wont move away from the block…should i pry from the bottom…?im the only one who is working on this no one is around to help me. kinda scared to have the tranny fall on my face lol.
did you remeber to take off the clutch cover??? it’s held on the bottom of the tranny, and it sandwiches the flywheel\clutch. the tranny won’t come off with out taking it off. as for damage to the tranny, yes it may cause some of those parts you mentioned to break or wear out. but if your getting a new clutch it should come with a new poilet berring, and you should be ok.

yeah i took that flywheel cover off along with those black supports… since my clutch is bad (exedy clutch only 737 miles till it broke) i should get another one. thanks
is there any more room for the tranny to move away from the block anymore? check to see that everything is out of the way adn not blocking the tranny from moving. You’re gonna need to pull the tranny away from the motor a little more and it should come down (make sure to put a jack under so you dont’ drop it).
The input shaft on the tranny sticks out from the tranny a few inches and goes through the pressure plate and into the clutch disc…you might be getting hung up on this shaft if you haven’t pulled the tranny away from the motor enough. Just be careful not to damage the shaft.
I’m sure you already double checked this stuff, but: starter motor? battery tray? vehicle speed sensor? those are out of the way…correct. What about the passenger side mount, i know you unbolted it, but did you move it out of the bay? it might be getting in your way if you left it in there.
ok i fianlly got it out took me like 10 mins. i forgot a bolt… i took it out the shaft is not damaged nor the teeth of the shaft. i discovered taht MY FLYWHEEL BOLTS WERE LOOSE. all of them were loose and one flywhell bolt was jsut shreded. the thread on the flywheel are ok from that one bolt that was shereded. no i gotta get a new clutch arhghgh thanks alot guys oh yeah i broke my thermostat sensory while i was trying to pry it anyone know how much it is?
does anyone know if its safe to put loctite on the flywheel bolts so i can prevent this from happening again? when i put my flywheel on i torqued it to the spec.? anyone heard of their flywheel bolts coming off loose? anyonen know if i can jsut get the exedy clutch disc only thats the only that that was damaged along with one bolt
ok heres the deal i recently discovered that the female end of the thread are stripped. i tried putting a good bolt on where the one bolt came loose but it wont really go in smooth. do i have to re thread it? anyone know anything about re threading? i understand the concept of it but wont it make the female threads bigger like (honing) so that means i have to find a sightly bigger bolt?
you can start off by using a tap of the same thread pitch. There is a chance that some of the threads are just a little messed up and can be fixed just by straightening them all out and cleaning out the hole w/ the tap. It really depends on how damaged the threads are. If they are more severly damaged then you’d need to drill it out and re-thread it larger…although i’m not sure if you can get larger size bolts for the flywheel or not.

i looked at my damaged bolt and its jsut like 3 thrades that was damaged i even took a magnifying glass and looked at the female end of the tread its jsut about 3 threads that were messed up on the female part, i hope i cand find the right tap and retap the female threads and hopefully use the original bolts. i think gen2lsvtec might know about rethreading since her did his head sutds “whereare you dude”…
