Quiet this teg down

Ok,

so a long time ago I put in an intake, pulled out the restriction of air flow to the engine bay and put in an “air dam” to bring more air to the where my intake was pointing. I also put in a test pipe for my cat and the car has a glass pack exhaust. These days this car is too damn loud. I pulled the test pipe but the sucker is still way to loud. My brother has intake (but no air dam) DC Header and DC Exhaust and his car runs more quiet at higher idle speeds than mine. What should I do first to quiet this teg down (the cat is already back).

Erik

Lose the glass pack exhaust. Get a RS*R Exhaust or something along those line’s.

I agree, the glass pack has to go. Im from the era of the Muscle Car where Glass Packs were the thing and man them V8s were loud. So I am sure yours is loud as well.

Im running a Flowmaster PRO 60 Series, but about to upgrade to the Flowmaster 40 Delta Series. I like Flowmaster because it doesnt have that high pitch Fart Can sound.

Magnaflow ovals are the same way… nice tone, no RICE.
I have one on my custom catback and its only loud if you really get on it at high rpm’s.

i thought that the 40series flowmaster was louder than the 60series:think:

^Yeah you’re right it is, that’s why he said he’s upgrading from 60 to 40

i’m sick of the 40series. i’m ‘downgrading’ to something else that can give me a quieter tone. it resonates my truck too much

idk the magnaflow that was on my car before i got my rsr sounded like complete garbage…so id say to stay away from that

it wsn’t a pissed off bee can noise, but it definately wasn’t good:whisper:

Well if you are going to downgrade, then move into the 60 series. Yes the 40 Deltas maybe louder, however, at the same time, the pitch is lower and deeper. Besides, something broke inside my muffler and I can hear it rattling in there when I drive…LOL I will let you guys know how it goes. Greddy Headers into Flowmaster. Should sound nice.

well I put back in the bottom half of the airbox thinking that would quiet the car down. Didn’t seam to quiet the car at all, but the funny thing is that I think the acceleration improved! Still haven’t replaced exhaust, but the loud noise really seams to come from the engine bay. Do different exhausts affect engine bay noise? My next move is to put on the stock air intake.

Maybe you should define what “loud noise or engine bay noise” is?

If its coming from the engine bay is it:

  • intake noise?
  • valve train noise?
  • …etc.

There are many things that produce noise. It helps to start narrowing it down instead of replacing parts that may or may help.

engine noise when at higher RPM’s. What sucks is the engine noise when I commute about 75-80MPH…

“VVVAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH”

unfortunately i can’t hop out of my car at 80MPH and tell you exactly where the noise is coming from. 6 years ago loud car was cool, now with a job where I drive alot and need to talk on my bluetooth it sucks.

Well if you want your car to be quiet, then put on:

  • stock intake/resonator
  • stock catalytic converter
  • stock exhaust w/resonator

i have a custom cat back on my 92 ls, is just a stainless ultraFLO muffler(bout it from a fellow g2 member) a 3in pipe goin to a 3 1/2 magnaflow tip and it sounds really good. not loud and not ricey, its got tone tho which i like.

thats the exhaust i have and he said its sounds very similar to his rs*r exhaust

dynamat? if weight reduction is not your game
