Quiet universal performance muffler

I’m looking for a new muffler to replace the Greddy MX muffler on my car. I’m tired of how loud it is, and I will have a muffler shop cut out the old one and weld in a new one in place of it. I’ve already replaced the resonator with a 2" longer resonator, which helped a bit, but not as much as I want. So, the last thing I can replace is the muffler itself.

So what I’m asking is what aftermarket mufflers are quiet? I’m NOT looking for a canister style muffler with a silencer, or any other type of muffler with some sort of removable silencer. I’m also not looking to hear what mufflers were quiet on other cars. That’s great that your friend’s Maxima sounded great with XXXX muffler, but it does me no good.

I’ve heard the ES Tuning oval muffler is quiet. Does anyone have reviews for that one? Does anyone have any reccomendations for a oval 60mm or 2.25" universal muffler that would be quieter than a Greddy MX? Video clips are great.

Thanks

the es muffler is not quiet. its a straight through, with minimal packing. sounds like a canister on most b-series. do you require straight through or is baffled ok?

if you dont mind baffled, try one of the dynomax offerings like the super turbo. get the 20-22" version oval muffler of watever muffler you decide to buy. longer the quieter.

watever you do, stay away from magnaflow (unless you get the 22x9") and borla if you want quiet!
assuming you have the greddy piping with resonators and cat still in place

Straight-through or baffled, I don’t care. As long as it doesn’t rob craploads of power or just flows decently.

A friend of mine had 2 Magnaflows on his DA. One round one acting in place of the resonator, and another one in place of the muffler. It was just as loud, if not louder than what I have now, but then again both of them were quite short in comparison to what I have now.

I’d like to stay with an oval muffler with offset in/out pipes. That way, it’s not quite as loud as a canister style muffler. I think I need to go measure my current muffler.

Nice post edit by the way

EDIT: The reason I’m doing this really isn’t that I’m tired of the noise. I like the noise, and I don’t mind other cars that sound nice but are loud. Washington state law prohibits modification of the exhaust system in any manner that will increase the noise over a stock exhaust system. So it’s mainly just to try and keep a lower profile. I feel like a jackass if I ever put my foot in it because it sounds like I’m speeding.

hey scott does your last name start with an " M "

i run # 14577 - 22x5x11" barely fits under my car, its still llouder than the greddy (2.5" no resonator, and no cat)

look for something similiar in size but 2.25". since you have the greddy resonators and cat in, you should be ok

I wouldn’t run a chambered/baffled muffler on a 4cyl. Sounds odd.
Run a big Magnaflow muffler and 2 resonators if you have to.

Garage - no.

G2 Racer - Describe. Some would argue that B series Hondas sound odd to begin with. Also, 2 resonators is silly. Thats a shitload extra weight, not to mention it will be hard to fit a second one in there.

Chambered mufflers should be fine considering stock oem mufflers use a chambered type of design to cancel out sound waves to reduce noise.

If you can find an old school RS*R exhaust, that might work for you as well. Quieter than the Greddy.

I’m interested in keeping price as low as possible, which is why I’m just looking for a new muffler.

I have an oddball suggestion based on prior experience.

Find someone with a modified WRX that still has the stock muffler laying around the garage, I got mine for $20 this way. Its kinda bulky and heavy compared to most after market types, be sure to measure for proper fitment. It offers a butt ton more flow than a stock Honda muffler. We built a sleeper, and this was the key to making it quiet.

I did this on a 92 Civic Hatch JDM F22B swap, 4-1 long tube header, a Moroso spiral muffler for a resonator and 2.5 piping. We did it without the Moroso piece and it was louder than we wanted. after installation it was perfect. The car was slightly louder than a stock Prelude and still ran 13s (even with all the traction issues).

No thanks.

Dunno. I just think chambered mufflers sound like shit on 4cyl.
A resonator doesn’t weigh very much either. I’m sure you can fit another one in there. Butt them up if you have to they are similar to a glass pack so it won’t hurt flow very much.

I have a Dynomax oval ‘turbo’ muffler, you can have if you want, I just have to wait for my new exhaust to show up. I live in Edmonds.

How loud is it? Got a video? That would be cool if it’s quiet enough.

what mods do you have done? literally just yesterday i took my custom exhaust off which included a cat/resonator/muffler and swapped it out for a factory '99 GSR B-pipe and test pipe. guess what, it was louder with FULL exhaust setup than with just a resonated pipe thats on there now

i know that’s not a suggestion, which you asked for, but just a thought. it’s 3:25am and i’m still working so i’m a little delirious right now. typically if you have a good resonator, the muffler shouldn’t matter as much. my car in it’s current state is living proof of that. if i were you i’d try a factory honda resonator. every aftermarket one i’ve ever owned is RASPY RASPY shit.

I have the universal 2.5 inlet megan racing OE muffler on my car and I love it…it also has a removable silencer too…and its 100 bucks i believe shipped. The quality is awesome and it sounds really quiet…here is the link

Sleeper - I think the test pipe is causing the noise. Either that or something is broken on your new exhaust.

CG5 - this is for you.

my bad on the removable silencer…missed reading it…but its mostly oval thas why I thought it would help…if not just ignore my post.

sorry i dont have a sound clip right now. a lot of people think i have a stock exhaust… so i guess you can say it is quiet, but it may have a different sound with different piping.
