race car front lighting

is there a not-too-difficult way to get both low and high beams to work at the same time? ideally the low beams would work in the usual way, but i want them to remain on when i switch to high beams. this is not with stock headlights btw, i’m installing four individual HID lights on a race car and would like the option of using just two (low beam mode) in some conditions but all four (high beam mode) during others using the stock headlight wiring and switch.

Easy enough, [if using the stock head light switch] add a switch to turn on the highs independently, [parallel connection.

You will need a 20A switch, [or a relay and smaller switch].

An inline fuse holder w/20A fuse.

From 12V source through fuse to switch from switch to high beam output lead from Combination Light Switch, [stock head lightr switch]. 94

sure i could rewire it but i was hoping to utilize the existing wiring/relays/switches/fuses and not add separate ones. i’ve already clipped the headlight leads off and replaced with my own connectors, low beam hot going to one HID and high going to another, both ground to the mounting plate i fabricated which mounts to the bumper beam (HIDs are mounted in pairs, one on each side directly in front of where the stock headlights would normally be). they work great but of course i only can get two at a time, seems like there has to be a relatively straightforward way to keep the low beams on when the highs are engaged. the entire dash is completely gone and i’m trying to keep the amount of custom wiring and switches to a minimum.

The high/low beam dimmer switch is built into the stock Combination Light Switch, so there is a high beam and a low lead coming from the switch so if you want to keep them separated and have the ability to have both on, you will need to add a switch to turn eather the highs or lows on when the othersa are on. 94

gotcha, i can remove the controlstalk in a couple of minutes, maybe i can figure out how to modify it to accomplish what i want. appreciate the help.

You can remove the Combination Light Switch but the dimmer switch has two positions high or low.

If you can live with just low beams or low and high beams, no just high beams, you can do it with just a relay and one lead from a fuse box, free pin. 94

found the perfect solution, pull the headlight switch connector off and move the low beam terminal (red/yellow) to the unused spot one position lower. that circuit is closed when the headlight switch is turned to full on and stays closed when high beams are engaged. probably part of the canadian DRL system, it’s not shown in the US wiring diagram so i didn’t realize it existed. works like a charm.

Does not show on mine either. 94
