V1 for over 6 years now and going strong. Have yet to find any detector that can sniff with as sensitivity as good as the V1.

so no one has answered my question. I thought they were illegal unless someone can correct me and which places sell them??
They are only illegal in certain states. Like Virginia where I live. They take them from you and give ya a $500 fine if they catch you with one plugged in. That’s ok. A little stealth install they’ll never know!!!
thats good to know if I lived in the USA
X50 all the way. I wish I had arrows though!
If any of you guys are going to purchase a radar detector ask me and ill be able to help you out and give you the one that fits you best.
I’d like to try one out but its all new to me. Wouldnt know where to start and where does it hook up and is it something i could do my self?
Well, first off what would be your budget? 2nd, you plug the power cord into the cig. lighter. 3rd it comes with 2 suction cups that you stick onto your windsheild. They are 100% legall as long as you dont live in Virginia, or Washington DC.
Spitfire:
They are illegal in Washington, DC. and Virginia. All other states allow them. In Canada, Alberta, BC and Sask. are allowed to have them.
It is a chargeable offense to be operating a radar detector in Ontario, BUT if it is NOT plugged in or within view of someone looking into the car, then define illegal…unless you have created a just cause for an officer to search your vehicle, then having an electronic device sitting under the seat unplugged is not a radar detector in operation at the time of being pulled over. If for some reason the detector went off while you were doing 175km/h and slammed on the brakes to cruise past the cops at 100, then yea, they know.
It is ironic that Beltronic makes some really nice radar detectors AND makes radar guns… BUT the best IRONY of Beltronics is that their manufacturing plant is here in the great province of Ontario WHERE being CAUGHT using a radar detector is a fine and they confiscate the detector (if still plugged in at the time of being pulled over) NOW for the fun stuff: Beltronics makes radar detectors, radar guns, radar jammers, AND VG2 (radar detector-detectors).

IF you were able to travel to ANY of the States, except Virginia and Washington, you can buy a detector at Circuit City. If you live in Ontario, you will need a Laser detector model which most Beltronics model offer. The STi Detector is the only detector that has been able to “hide” from the new radar detector-detector called Spectre. I wonder who created the Spectre… hmm… what a great marketing scheme!!
Last tidbit of hot air here. When I was the Beltronics plant last, they had this idiotic remote sensor detector. Basically due to popular demand in Europe, they wanted to create something that would defeat “itself” and void the possibility of getting caught with a radar detector. Sound confusing, but, they had a remote “sensor” that attached to the front of the car that transmitted RF to the CPU that was hidden deep inside the car which would then send a message to a pager/remote on your body. Heres the catch: the split second that the radar sensor detects and validates a true radar signal, “IT” (the sensor) pops off the mount and will break into little pieces IF you have not 1)pressed a button on the remote and 2) slowed down to safe speed. Now there is NO evidence of a radar detector as NOTHING will be picked up by a RDD. Sounds so cool and steathly BUT if you have to continue replacing the remote sensor, it could get costly.
ok thanks Flea. Now I just have to figure out my cig light problem.
Go with the X50 or RX65
Buy a new lighter assembly. Sometimes the coil just goes bad. Check the wires leading to/from it; might have a fray or a break.
If that fails, try spliting open the sheathing around the cig lighter plug on the detector. Use the pos. and neg wires and hook those to your wires sticking out from the old cig. lighter. i.e.-hardwire it.
If THAT don’t work, tap a power wire from elsewhere and then attach a ground wire to the body and use that like a hardwire.:burnout: :manual:
thanks h93da6
Always happy to assist. Karma is a beautiful thing.
Does anyone have a V1?
I have a whister…I dont really go by it though, since brian (92 teg rs) is usualy ahead of me and has one of the best radars (the X50)
I’ve had the Escort 8500 X50 Red for almost 2 years. AMAZING!!! only 1 ticket and i got hit with laser. but it wasnt me and the cop knew it because he only made my ticket for 5 over when he said i was doing “30” over… lol… thats because when he pulled me over, he asked if my radar detector got laser and i said yes, and he didnt even bother asking me how fast i was going. He just came back and said i wrote it for 5 over, but you were doing 30 over. so just slow down… lol. my ass!!! i was behind 3!! transport trucks, and the ONLY way for laser to work, is he has to hit my front license plate dead on with no more than 3 degree angle. which he was way more than that and i was behind trucks so no way he got me.
Plus im from tennessee and i was in michigan and there was no way i was gonna come all the way to fight a 5 over ticket, but a 30 over? damn right i would have faught that ticket.
Any radar detector is better than none.
My brother has the V1 and i like mine better. same shit. you hear a beap, you SLOW the fuck down… lol…
do any of the detectors have remote antenna’s? so you can hide it somewhere else in the vehicle? i’m thinking about buying one, but don’t necessarily want it stuck to my windshield.
Haha thats right… When i’m doin pretty well over the limit I slam on the breaks. It’s funny to see people pass you when your getting a Ka or K warning and then BAM! ticket for them lol.
