radiator help? overflow boiling?

so i took my brother to work get to my work, turn my car off, and the overflow container was boiling? my radiator looks to be leaking, and theres a misterious brown substance on my heat sheild… im not sure what to do to diagnose this, if anybody knows how to help. thatd be great. my radiator lost alot of fluid. :dunno:

POP the hood, run the car and see where the leak is. We can’t jump threw the computer and fix it for you. Its obviously leaking so look around, also let the car cool all the way down and check under the oil cap for milkiness.

wel yea… i know you cant, i just need ideas on how to look into my problem. but ill definately try that. thanks

could also be the rad cap

Yes. definitely the Radiator cap. Make sure it’s OEM. It should be red.

There not red, there matel with a yellow sticker

Naww man. San diego dealership said there red. Yes they might have changed it. I bought mine last year.

thermostat may also be your problem, I had the same problem (however only on hot days).

My thermostat was stuck closed, so my engine would overheat and cause my coolant to overflow all over my belts. Thankfully I keep an eye on my coolant gauge all the time.

Do you have the chrome one with the little red tap you lift up? If so,there not the true oem ones, there the aftermarket oem replacements.
I have the OEM one on my car and its got jap wrighting on it.

i heard thermostat… probably give that a try, there only 6$ and my cap is have black half red with some jap and some english on it

I was not trying to be a dick. Sorry if it looked like it,the net can be misleading . I was simply telling him to look around for the leak as there is obviously one. That’s all.

whoa. i didn’t sense any neg attitude there.
but yea, here’s what i’d do. hose all the coolant off. get it all clean. top it up. run the vehicle and check that the cap is cycling correctly. the cap is like a 2 way valve. it should be allowing coolant into the reservoir at operating temp, then allowing it to be pulled back into the rad once the temp cools slightly. the cap also places pressure on the system. if that pressure is not present, it will overheat. the spring is probably no good. therefore not placing pressure, nor cycling as it should be. you can also have a look for leaks while doing this.

This!!
