radiator hoses, is silicone better than rubber?

is silicone better than rubber?

whats the difference with them…

anyone?

well, i know silicon can withstand oil much better than rubber. that’s about as far as my immediate knowledge on the subject goes.
why do you ask?

about to get some new hoses and i see that theres rubber and silicone and i just wanted to know if there were any major differences between having them…

i’m sure rubber will suffice.
silicon’s probably more expensive, but not necessary, IMO.
make sure you have a good look at all your coolant hoses. squeeze them and look for cracks. feel for soft spots. if one burst, there’s a chance others won’t be in the best shape. and since the system will be drained, it would be a good time to change them if needed

Silicon has a better thermal dissipation and will hold its form through more temperature cycles. That is why they cost more.

over-engineering, IMO

Silicon may be better but for most people its just bling. Another way to add color and aftermarket parts… the OEM rubber lasts 10+ years so its plenty durable.
