Radiator Question

My teg recently overheated and hot coolant started spewing from the radiator through a hairline crack in the radiator…I just changed the thermostat that was causing the problem but do I need to replace the radiator also? The crack is located near the upper portion near the radiator cap and I can see little bubbles popping out from the crack but coolant is bubbling out in only trace amounts. Not like its dripping out. Thanks to those who reply

coolant coming out of a crack in a radiator=replace it.

The crack is up at the brown plastic portion…would some sort of radiator sealer work?

Hey man, Roman and I just took out his radiator 2 nights ago. Using that sealant is totally YUCKY (He used it a couple months ago). It coats everything, even the rubber hose on the reservoir. Roman says it’s really not worth it, and may even clog up your water pump. It turned everything a yucky color. Use it only for emergencies! You’re better off just getting a new radiator.

Thanks for the tip Neil, guess I gotta look for a new radiator then.

Like everyone has said, you need to replace it. The same thing happened to me about a month ago. It’s not hard to replace. It’s about a 2 hour job. It was harder to put my intake on than it was to replace my radaitor.

Any type of “stop leak” additive will stop a leak also if the hole that is causing the leak does not use the entire amount of “stop leak” then the excess will try and stop any other flow, that it sees as a leak, if I was you I would spend the $50 and get a new radiator.

Check out this site, they have great prices and are built to OEM specs, this is what kind I got
