radiator support?

i was cleaning my throttle body and air intake and little stuff until i put my cv axles in and i noticed this: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7340/11613099174_6a665563ce_b.jpg so heres a picture of what it looks like right behind my raditor support. im not to sure if it is fixable as the metal is all bent up and what not. but what do you guys think should/could be done about this? the headlight sits a little funny and the hole you see in the picture is right under where the air intake (sir) filter/element would sit above. any help is greatly appreciated.

oops sorry

Yes, that’s the radiator support…and would be the cause of your headlight sitting funny. If you pulled the bumper off, I’d be willing to bet the bumper support has damage as well.

You can try to straighten it and fix the way your light/hood/bumper all align.

Speaking structurally, it really should be replaced or pulled by an auto shop that has a frame/rack.

thanks. my question to you is how much do YOU think it would cost? haha its not to annoying i got other problems im trying to sort out with this car but i want to get this fixed at the same time.

It’s hard to say… Last I checked, labor rates were about $40 an hour with a 3hr minimum charge for a pull. Call around to some REPUTABLE places and see what they say their rates are.

Honestly that is the better way to fix it, versus hammering it out yourself if you’ve never done it…

The BEST way would be to install a new (or used) support… but that will surely cost quite a bit more.

alright thanks man. im gonna look around for some places that specialize in auto body repair and look to see if i can find some new/used radiator supports.

Keep us updated on how much you paid

i actually had somewhat of the same damage, i do have some knowledge in body so i was able to pull / hammer mine out. the only thing is the very top of my core support is a little wrinkled… everything fits fine its just something i wanted to fix in time.

I have looked into buying a new core support, they go around 250-300 online… although if you look at most of the websites reviews, a lot seem to be very flakey cheesy websites… best bet would be a pick-n-pull and ask them about cuts, if you do it yourself ive gotten a price of 60-90$ depending on how far back i cut… i would honestly recommend cutting all the way back to the front of the strut tower just incase any thing further back was wrinkled.

If you find one online make sure to google reviews for the website, i have heard people used to get them for around 100$ wich is much easier on the wallet, but i dont know maybe prices are going back up because its becoming quite a old part.

deffinetly use the help of your friend if you decide to fix it yourself and let us know how it goes!

im headed up to Surrey BC this weekend and might find a radiator support… being in Bellingham we have no local pick-n-pulls or any wrecking yards so ive been putting it off :frowning: if i do mine i will do a write up!

Mine has been wrecked hard on the right front, also. I work in a car dealer with a body shop. When things slow down next summer, I’m gonna see if I can get one of the guys to put it on the frame machine. I might have to come up with a twelver of Corona… lol

haha that write up would be awesome man! yeah im thinking about doing it myself in the summer cause its winter here in mi and way too cold to be fooling around with it. im gonna go for it though! and ill be sure to keep you guys posted probably be doing a little build thats a here and there kind of deal since i just turned seventeen and im low on the funds haha
