Radiator Swap (Visteon)

:bang: Just bought a Visteon radiator for my 92 DA. When I pulled out the stock radiator, I noticed the two coolant lines running to the tranny (auto), the Visteon does not have the inlets. Does anyone know what I can do? Please help.

Thanks.

you can either buy a heat exchanger and install it, kinda like an oil cooler, or you can put your OEM one back in and buy a radiator that has the ports.

there could be a way to tap the rad, but i wouldnt mess with it

exchange it for the right one

visteon swap

That really sucks!!!was really looking forward to having this put on.I did end up putting the stock rad. back in with some leak seal stuff, so far so good, hell of a lot cheaper too!!! thanks for the input.

personally, i don’t like to use the solder seal besides an absolute last resort. there’s no way of getting it all out of the system once you let that stuff in there

Yeah,I hear ya, gonna get the system flushed, throw a new thermastat in,and swap out the rad. the shop told me I could run the tranny lines to one an other by connecting them, straight from the tranny…

that would be bad to run them to one another you can technically do that but that is not a good idea

i mean i can technically stick my dick in a toaster and it would be nice and warm but its not a good idea lol

the reason why those lines go to the radiator is to cool the auto trans fluid. you run them into eachother the fluid keeps cycling with no cooling down thus boiling the fluid which will break the fluid down and eventually fuck your world up

Makes sense man appreciate the input, yeah the dick in the toaster, real bad idea!!! man what the fuck!!! why would they tell you some shit like that???:wtf:

heat is the number killer of transmissions

Man I was really diggin that rad.looks like ill be going new OEM…:surrend: da wouldve loved to have that!!! I just need a fuckin swap peroid!!!

just run that radiator and get an oil cooler for the transmission dude

whats up man,saw the pics,is that the cooler on the front of the cars?

that second one is an intercooler.
and you’d wanna put it behind the bumper, not out in the open like that. if you have A/C, there won’t be much room. if not, it should be easy to fit in front of the rad. personally, i’d just get the right rad. find a decent used one if you have to

for sure, sounds like a big hassle,im just gonna go with oem, thanks for the input,

the second one is an oil coiler look again buddy

and i didnt mean that he had to put it out in the front like that lol i happen to dig that style but it is just as functional in the back of the bumper oil coolers are small plenty of places to mount them even with the radiator and ac condensor

whoa. relax, bud. in the second pic, the tank doesn’t look like it is of any oil cooler i’ve ever seen. if i’m mistaken, i apologize.
i realize aftermarket oil coolers are compact and could be placed virtually anywhere on the car. that doesn’t mean that it would exchange heat as effectively as if placed inside the radiator as the engineers designed

it should do it better in fact as long as it is placed in an area where it will get air fed through it should cool the trans fluid better than a radiator would.

This is why performance cars that have auto transmissions have transmission coolers (just a factory oil cooler just like the pictures)

And diesel trucks and big rigs also have them of course on a much larger scale. It is a more effecient process and keeps the transmission in fact cooler

Wouldnt be a bad idea if he does any kind of spirited driving

And im relaxed man im not jumpin noones ass just was stating you should look at that pic again. And i dont want this guy to think his radiator is useless since he stated he wanted to use an aftermarket radiator. Hell if I was in his position id run the radiator and an oil cooler and see if it dont shift smoother from cooler trans temps just my .02 cents thats all forums are a collection of peoples .02 cents

well, i’m not 100% sure of the anatomy of the oem auto radiator, so can’t say for sure whether it would do a better job. i was just thinking the radiator is larger, so it would make a better heat exchanger. but i doubt the fins are actually utilized in cooling the trans fluid. if fluid just runs straight through the bottom of the rad, then yes, i’d say you are correct that an aftermarket unit would be more efficient.

Generally that is what most fluid does in a radiator it uses the coolant to basically soak out the heat and it is extremely unefficient. Oil and tranny coolers are awesome little additions to any car. I have an oil cooler and a trans cooler on my daily truck and i get an extra 2k out of my oil till i have to change it.

All in all he is gonna put a oem radiator back in which i think is a waste but to each his own and happy honda modding to all.

Now I gotta go work on this god forsaken wagovan i hate this goddamn car

:getsome:WHAOOOOOOO, Its US vs. CANADA in the battle of the wits, catch live this Saturday payper view only!!! just kiddin guys all this input is great, good to have guys like you helping out thanks!!! since Ireally like this Visteon rad.im gonna look into the coolers thanks again for all you help, later on!!!
