Radio install kit question

I am looking for a radio install kit to install a Sony in my car. The only problem is that I do not have the cage/sleeve for it and I am looking for one that secures the radio to the kit instead of using the cage/sleeve. If anyone knows of any please let me know. Thanks.

are u talking about the rectangle piece that goes over the deck to secure it in place or the center console piece that hold the deck? anyways go check wal-mart, best buy, radio shack all those place to look for wat ur tallking about… i know wal-mart, best buy, circuit city has the deck install kit and the rectangle sleeve…

Metra 99-7898… http://www.audiooutfitter.com/store/70664/997898.html has iso mounting brackets.:bowthank: 94

kit is nice, i have the same one with a kenwood in mine ^

I checked Autozone, Checker (Kragen), and Wal Mart and all of them need the metal sleeve to install. The one from the link is the one that I was going to get form that website. I emailed metra and they said that I don’t need the sleeve for that kit. Did you need the metal sleeve to install your stereo jerzey integra?

Just go buy the kit from a CC or a BB and ask one of the dudes in the car audio department to give you a cage. I guarantee they have tons of them all over the place, I used to work at a BB.

Best buy is about 90 miles from me so I can’t do that. I just went ahead and ordered the one in the link.

Just go to any place that installs car stereos then and ask for a cage, they will have plenty laying around and probably just give it to you.

If you use the Metra kit I linked you will not need the mounting sleeve, that’s why I recommend it.

However, as mentioned, just about any car audio install bay will have a mounting sleeve, definitely if they are a Sony dealer.

You can also do a custom mount without the sleeve or a kit, all you need is the stock pocket and some back strapping.:whisper:94

I went to a stereo place and they tried about 10 different ones and they did not fit. Since the one will work then it’s all good. Thanks everyone.

Yup the metra kit doesnt need the sleeve

Sweet! Thanks guys!

Metra FTW! Fits like a penis in a vagina! Peeeeerfect! :bowthank:

Got the kit and it installed without a problem. Thanks everyone for your input. The only other question is how can I secure it in the back like OEM?

You us a metal “L” bracket, can be made from back strapping… http://www.scosche.com/scosche_caraudio.aspx?CategoryID=90&ItemID=BS18

Mount “L” bracket to back of HU, [using back support mounting hole] have the “bottom” of the L a little less then flush with the bottom of the HU.

Even though the stock HU used two machine screws, [left and right of center] to mount the back of it to the rear support bracket, Honda, in their great wisdom, also installed a hole/slot in the center of the rear support bracket, that just happens to line up with the aftermarket HU rear support, [“L” bracket] mounting hole, on the back of the HU.

This may help… http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs/Acura/PDF/466049.pdf

I will bend the back strap into an “L” bracket so when in place, one of the holes, [in the "bottom"of the L] will line up with the hole in the center of the rear support bracket, slip a speed nut on the “L” bracket so it lines up with the hole and back brace your HU the way the stock HU is braced, step 1 on page 3.:bowthank: 94

There is no center mounting hole, only the 2 holes for the stock radio.

What, no center hole???:dunno:

Then it is the first Honda/Acura I have seen that does not have one.

That leaves you with a few options…

1 - Drill a center hole.

2 - Use stock HU rear support bracket if it is removable.

3 - Make a rear support bracket that matches the stock one.

Drilling a center hole in rear support bracket is probably the easiest.:idea:94

It has a hole for the wire holder clip behind one of the holes, not lining up with the hole in the center of the back of the radio.
