Radio Problem. Help!

Hi All,

My stock Acura am/fm/cassete radio is having a problem. The front passenger door speaker cuts in and out regularly. It’s getting annoying!

Has anyone else had this problem with their stock system? Any ideas about what could be causing it (loose connection, bad head unit, etc.)?

I’m not sure if this is a common issue with an easy fix (other than replacing w/an aftermarket system), but any suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks!

It has to be a loose connection somewhere. The most obvious place to check first is the speaker itself. Take it out and look at the connectors closely. If it’s not that, then it gets fun, because you’ll have to take out your head-unit to look at the big stereo harness for loose connections, and if it’s not there, then there must be some weak solder SOMEWHERE in the head-unit circuit boards… I hate to say it, but I hate Honda stock sound systems. Quality in that department is definitely something they are NOT known for, hehe…

I had the exact same problem when I bought my teg. I already had a better head unit from my last car so I put it in. Not a problem any more. It was the head unit in my case because I used all the stock wiring, just pluged the new JVC disc player into the stock harness and haven’t had a single problem.

I put my stock back on cause the cd player I had was a piece of shyt, but now it cuts in and out. I’m going to assume that its the 12 year old radio…i dunno

my buddy had the same prob with his teg he said all of his connex were soldered and everything was tight when he put his new h unit in it went away so we asssumed it was just the head unit. the outputs go bad in alot of factory h units after a while

I had the same exact problem with my rear speakers, every now an then the speakers would cut in an out, and it was really anoying, checked all the wires and everything, finally I decided to buy a pioneer head unit, put it in an everything was perfect, except for the fact that it blew out my stock speakers in about 2 seconds, but those were getting replaced anyway. I eventually took apart the stock radio and turns out that the soder was corroding and one of the boards inside was actually cracked, no way to fix it that i new of so it was pretty much junk, i reccomend gettin something new, you can get a pretty cheap one if you just want something to listen to

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the input. It was all very helpful. I’ll check for a loose speaker wire in the right door 1st. If that doesn’t do it, I’ll go for a new head unit.

I’d like to keep the stock stereo in it for the sake of originality. Anyone know where I can find a NOS head unit for a 1991 (other than Acura)?

If not, say “hello” to a Sony XPlode…

Thanks again!
