Random Technology or Carsound cat

What catalytic converter would you recommend Carsound or Random Technology? I believe that the carsound is cheaper but it does not have the fittings welded. The Random Technology is more expensive but it is a bolt-on installation.
Thanks in advance.

i have carsound…because it only cost $100 installed.

i have a Random Tech. High flow Cat. So far no problems, but i don’t think it will matter if you have someone doing your exhaust. I had someone custom install my exhaust so i think he could have done it whether or not it was a STRAIGHT bolt on or not. If you are doing it yourself, you might wanna go with the random tech. IMO

i just put in a catco cat in my car tonight , i got it from another member on this board. i havent drove the cat yet but this one was a directbolt on. you can get them from summitracing.com for around 110 shipped.so that is an option if you want to get a direct bolt on but keep the cost down.
later

is it just me or can i not bring myself to pay 100+ for like 2hp. 50$/hp

but people pay 250-300 for a header, 5-10 hp. same thing. or 4-500 for an namebrand catback –> ~10hp

Thanks for all the info. I will be doing it myself, so I think I’ll go with the Random Technology.

CAT

I got a Catco from Summit Racing 100.00. Direct fit, no welding needed, with gasket and all. My recommendation since Random Techs like 200+

yes don’t spend the extra money on a RT cat. it’s not worth it for a something that only gives you a couple extra horses.

btw: i assume you have I/H/E already? a high flow cat won’t do much if you’re bottlenecking right after the cat

I installed a random tech cat on my integra with hks hiper exhaust and greddy header…everything fits fine since i paid the extra $20 for the install kit…only thing is, I heard from someone on superhona that random tech has the shittiest flow rate and they are supposed to break, like internally within the first 6-8 months. Ive had mine for 3 months and no problems…

Hey Minger1179, how long have you had your Random Tech cat?
Does anyone have any information or dyno charts comparing cats?
For a bolt-on job, Laopadak’s catco cat sound like a good deal. Has anyone had experience with catco?
Right now I have an AEM intake and the muffler part of a Greddy SP catback. I have already made up my mind on buying a DC 4-2-1 ceramic and DC catback The only part that I haven’t decided on is on the cat.
Thanks in advance.

i had my random tech cat on my car for 7 or 8 months with no problems. i pulled the exhuast and cat off about a week a go when i was swapping parts over onto my new teg and other then being a little dirty it looked good as new. random tech cat and greddy sp is a good setup:D

i got a carsound, basically the muffler shop cut off the fittings from the stock cat and welded the parts together. 2" piping, cost like $1oo+ for the whole thing installed.

i also have a trust exhaust, dc header and intake. the whole thing is friggen quiet. i’m amazed at how quiet the setup is. but once i get to 4300 rpms things change.
