Changed my plan 100 percent. Im going to work with 11 cfm air compressor, da and paint gun. i want to do this for a while so i can clearly say i painted it myself and im afraid to paint it with rattle can cuz this thing is expensive and wont look right, like it rolled out of dealership and i need air compressor anyway for my air tools i have in my other box
Pick up a $30-40 gun from Harbor Freight. Keep it thoroughly clean and it should last you 8-10 jobs before gaskets and o-rings disintegrate.
Find some scrap metal or paper to test on before shooting the car.
yeah my dad got alot of body parts laying at his shop
i have this yellow parts car that used to be jasper green the door jamb’s still green im going to use hood, fenders and doors from it cuz there bodys pretty straight it really doesnt matter mines look like shit alot of dents im trying to do body work on the car like roof quarter panels and trunk and sand the yellow paint off from those fenders and doors i cant wait to collect all the tools and material to do it hopefully during spring
i got air compressor for 50$ the guy said it needs a little work it wont build pressure above 60 psi got it home thinking i ve wasted my money but hopefully its only small thing like pressure switch if not what else could it be?
you need a lot of air for most paint guns, otherwise get the slowest reducer in paint, and shoot one panel at a time, and wait for the compressor to catch up.
If you drop too low the paint won’t atomize right and it will good come out really bad. It can be done with patience with enough patience and proper prep before hand,
good luck, and read as much as you can at autobody101.com for some really good advice.
Damn, I wanted you guys to hype demolisher to rattle can. I sure was rooting for 'em to do it so I could see how the results would turn out. Understand, I am not hating or hoping for failure, wanted to see the difference in automotive paint vs aerosol on a G2. Seen a lot of websites on this, some decent, some horiffic. Youtube has a couple of fails while I had seen two cars look “not too shabby” looking. The ones that looked pretty decent, the individual took their time and did a lot of prep work as though they were actually going to use a booth, automotive paint and a gun, but ended up using aerosol. Went through every thing one at a time; masked, primered, paint, clear coat, and wet sanded. It even had a shine.
I’ll try and find that Trans Am they painted black (of all colors, the hardest color) on youtube and post it for you guys.
why not get a plastidip kit.
best part is its less prep and easy to clean.
been thinking about rattle can it with jasper green is there any experience getting jasper green from duplicolor or sherwin williams???
If you’re going to try and just paint spots, or a fender or something, you’ll have better luck with an actual paint-match versus ordering just the paint code for AGP.
If you’re going to spray the entire car it won’t need to match perfectly because all surfaces will be sprayed.
im going to paint the whole car with straighter body panels from parts car so i dont have to do so much more body work lol im looking for place that will mix them for me those sites i found cost 20 dollars :uhoh::run:
Gotta pay to get things done!
Just in materials for a correct base/clear job will run nearly $600… and that’s not counting tape/sandpaper/masking paper/paint gun/etc etc etc…
Custom-matched paint in aersosol cans definitely isn’t cheap, either.
i dunno what aersosol is, is it clear coat ones? but it comes with it for 20 so i guess its not bad lol and i wonder how many cans needed to paint whole car and to clear it? 5 or 6 of each paint and clear?
Aerosol means air-pressurized canister.
Youd need at least 10 cans of each I’d imagine.
Do some searching and see how much it takes to adequately cover a car.
this was my aerosol paint job aka rattle can and spray paint…took i think 14 cans to get her nice and white…kinda miss the color
and this is real paint…$700 in materials alone
i will never spray paint a car again as once it is rattle canned u need to strip EVERY BIT OF IT OFF before real paint, the chemicals in the spray paint react with real paint and make it wrinkle
so u repainted it again after u rattle canned?
she was rattle canned for almost a year. but to paint it properly after rattle can u have to remove every last bit of spray paint. the car was painted and the spots where the spray paint was just sanded down the paint started to react and wrinkle. so had to strip down the entire car again. its not worth it rattle canning it unless you plan on keeping it like that forever lol
I used DuPont Paint and had the paint shop put the basecoat into spray cans and used 2k clearcoat in a can as well! Sanded with 320, tacked then spray with a 50/50 over spray 3 mins in between coats with 3 coats.
