Rear Brake Problem

I have a 91 GS with abs… it seems as if the left rear caliper is seized because the wheel drags when i drive and i can barely spin it when its off the ground. the thing that’s bothering me is that i compressed the piston and it seemed to have fixed the problem but when i got in the car today and started to pull out of my driveway the back left of the car dipped as i started to move… will i still need to replace the caliper even though i can compress the piston?? please help i dont want to spend the money if i don’t have to

Did you check the slider pins? If those are seized they won’t let the caliper move. Those are what the caliper bolts to. Take them out and clean them and grease them. I bet it’s your problem. You should clean and grease them everytime you change your pads and maybe more often on the rear since the pads usually last longer. Hope that helps you out.

+1 on the slider pins. youll know theyre seized as soon as you pull on them and they dont move. theyre supposed to move freely back and forth. if they are seized then they will need to be replaced. another way to confirm is to look at your inner brake pad. is it worn wayyyyy more than the outer one?

thanks for the replies but it’s deff not the slider pins i checked and greased them… i think i’m just gonna go ahead and replace the caliper. i read on another forum that someone else had the same problem as me and replacing the caliper fixed the problem… thanks again!

Yeah I would say replace the caliper if the slider pins are in working order. Sounds like it’s most likely the piston acting up. Had that same issue with a Audi A4 I had. Hated those rear calipers.
