Rear calipers

Just quick question. Tried replacing rear pads last weekend, but calipers wouldn’t move off of the rotors. Just coudln’t get them to flip up. Someone told me, could use a torch on the caliper to heat it up, expand it and such and hopefully that’ll help. Just doesn’t seem like a good idea to me. Thoughts on the matter?

(already going to pick up some wd40 and some other kind of lubricant, to see if that’ll help, but wanted to know abotu torching it as a back up if the lube doesn’t work…)

um, don’t heat it up with a torch…

pry it a bit to get the caliper off…if that doesnt work, the piston is probably siezed… good luck.

any recommendations on some sort of lube other the the ole wd-40? Someone at work was telling me about some sort of gel that you can use?

just take off the two bolts and pry the caliper off. it has to come off. with a nice pry bar it will come off.

before you try prying metal-on-metal and risk damaging things, invest in a dead blow hammer. they’re also commonly called “rubber mallet”.

some sort of device you can use to thwack, but not mar, the caliper is ideal.

mine have helped me out too many times to count.

i agree with the rubber mallet. i’ve had to do the same to calipers before. just because they don’t want to rotate smoothly doesn’t mean they can’t be encouraged
