Rear control arm bushing install

[SIZE=“4”]So this is a little guide on how to replace your rear control arm bushings

what we used:

Harbor Freight 12 TON press ($86.99 with coupon(you car return it later and get your money back :P))
1" 1/16 socket
1" socket
ES Rear control arm bushing
Spare Rear control arms
Breakfast bagel

So first off start by eating your Spinach Parmesan with egg and cheese bagel
(you dont want to work on a car on an empty stomach)

then make funny faces at the camera

then safely jack up the car and secure it on some jackstands
and remove the control arms (if you dont have spares)

The first thing to do is to read the instructions that are included with your bushing kit

then get your trusty Harbor Freight 12 TON press (you can find a coupon in your favorite magazine.
Then grab 1" and a 1" 1/16 sockets that you dont care about

so what you want to do is line up the ARBOR plates that come with the press so that the bushing sleeve will fall through once the press and socke push down on it
the socket showed is halfway in and the sleeve halfway out
when doing this you will hear the occational load POP sound, dont be scared
its the sleeve leaving the control arm

VIDEO of press in action

when done right you should end up with the sleeves and the control arm looking like this

just make sure that you keep an eye out on the arbor plates at all times
and that you dont put any body parts in harms way lol
you cant see it yet lol but a bruise is there, those things fucking hurt

[SIZE=“4”]now lube the inside of the control arm

and lube the outside and inside of the bushings

then press the new bushings in (a little muscle gets them in, if not a C clamp is good enough)
and its should look like this

now you can compare your new bushings to the old ones (in matts case we found that his driver side control arm was bent :scared:

now bolt back on the control arms and your done, clean up your work area and go have a beer

the popping sound is scary :giggle:

Nice write up. You should also write how you guys got thos pain in the ass LCA bolts off without snapping them like i did.

did you hammer the bent arm straight?

no we had spares that replaced it

Never had that problem, they come right off on my car. Maybe because I’ve removed the bolt many times before

And because you guys are in Cali. Lucky no-rust havin SOBs, :grumble: :grumble:

But damn, that press got cheaper for sure. I think I paid around $110 or $120 for mine. And yes that popping sound is definitely a good one. About the same as breaking loose a bolt I’d say

The next will be hopefully doing the front arms, then I’m done.

PB Blaster for those rusty bolts. That and use a 6 point socket, not a 12.
