Rear defrost problem

Hey guys, I am pretty positive it is the switch… I have been restoring a 92 gs-r for almost a year now. I started driving it as a daily last week, and the rear defrost does not work. There is no little orange light when you push the switch, and also it does not make that click noise when you push it in. Does this have to be the switch or could it be something else?

It could be the switch, or the relay, or the ICU or even just a blown fuse. 94

yeah I mean I haven’t checked anything else yet, this car has a lot of little things it needs but nothing major which is very good. The thing is the switch literally does not feel like other switches like it. for example if you push the fog light switch you feel and hear it click, this rear defrost one does nothing

do your intermitent wipers work do you here a beep sound that comes out of no where sometimes.

intermitent wipers work. no deep sounds

The RWDS, [rear window defog switch] is a momentary switch, “on” only when pushed, there is no “click” on and off,

The RWDS supplies ICU with a signal and the ICU turns on, [timer] the defrost relay and indicator light.

If you have already checked the fuse, you will have to pull the switch and test it or plug in a known working one to see if it is a switch problem.94

thanks for the info. it was not the fuse. I will try a switch next since that is the next easiest and cheapest step

if you are talking about the back glass (just making sure) then check the lines across to see if any are cut from window tint being removed. if so then it will not work. just throwing that out there

thanks bud, I doubt that is the case because it has 10+ year old window tint still on it just haven’t had time to remove it

Although damage to the grid or connection problems at the grid are common it would not prevent the indicator light in defrost switch from working.94

switch did not fix the problem

i would think the icu then its not to difficult to pull and diagnose it is secured to the back of the fuse box i will get a picture and post it of what a bad icu looks like internally.

if you could do that it would be a big help. I am only off work every other week for 3 days then I work again for another two weeks so it is hard to find the time to work on my db2 and crx and still have a life lol

heres the link to pics and some info http://www.g2ic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=127170&highlight=icu&page=8

I’m also having the same problems, but my defroster comes on once in a while when i dont need to use it. but when i want to use it, it wont work!!! do you guys think it has to do with the re-wire of the fog switch???

i have the same problem as 91 WHITE^^^…help pleaseee

bump!

its most likely your guys ICUs all the symptoms you post up point to the ICU.
