rear defroster comes on by itself

Has anyone else had this happen on there Teg?. My raer defroster will come on every time I step on the brake pedal. Does the brake switch and rear defroster share a feed somewhere? I have the defroster fuse pulled for now.

Are you saying when you step on the brake the rear window defog switch indicator comes on, or the rear window defog itself or maybe both, just like it would if you pressed the defog switch?

If any of the above are so, does it stay on after you take your foot off the brake, or is it only on when you step on the brake?

I am assuming it’s a teg, but what year?

FYI, the rear window defog power is supplied by a relay, the relay is controlled, [timer] by the ICU.

The brake light switch is on a diff. circuit then the rear window defog circuit, although with a neg.(-) ground DC system the ground is common to all circuits.

If the rear window defog comes on just like when you press the defog switch, I would check the ICU.

Need more info about exactly what happens, to make any other suggestions.:hmm: 94

if it pops on when he presses the brake it may be frayed wires between the body and the hatch.

I had this problem with a old dodge shadow.

The led for the defroster and the defroster comes on when the brake is pressed. I can turn it off by pressing the switch again but as soon as I step on the brake it comes on. It is a 1992 Integra Hatchback. Thanks for your help.

Does it turn off normally, by itself, if left on for it’s timed output, sorry not sure what the duration is in a G2.

Anyway, if the rear window defog works normally, other then that it turns on when stepping on brake, I would agree with raccoon “it may be frayed wires”, more specifically a connection between the brake switch output, [12V+] and the defog turn on circuit, or it could be caused by the moving of the brake peddle, [pinched wires]

To test, unplug the brake switch, and use a jumper lead to connect the white/green and green/white leads in the plug, if defog comes on you have a short, [of some sort] between the brake light switch output, green/white and the defog switch, [turn on lead] or a problem with the ICU itself.:hmm:94

thanks, I will check it out.

defroster comes on by itself

Where abouts is the ICU? Where could I buy one?

it plugs into the back of the fuse box, you have to remove the kick panel and unbolt the fuse box.

as for where to get one, junk yard, dealer or maybe in the for sale section on this board.
