Rear defroster warms up very slowly

I understand that the rear defroster should start taking affect within 30 seconds? Mine definitely takes over 1-2 mins before I start seeing it take affect.
Where can I start to troubleshoot this problem?

1993 Acura Integra GS.

Start by checking the connections at the rear window, make sure the terminals are clean and tight, you will need to remove some trim to check the ground connection, [where ground terminal lead is grounded to cars chassis].

If the above does not work I would replace the defog relay, it could have a burnt contact.:stare:94

Where is the defog relay located? Also how do I know which trim I need to remove to check the ground connection?

Sorry, not sure exactly where defog relay is on a G2, it’s a good bet it is under dash on the drivers side, you should be able to hear it click on and off when you press the defog switch.

It is also a good bet that the defog ground is on the pass. side of car, [wiring for rear of car is on drivers side. it will not be far from the plug to the defog grid on the glass, you can also just test the terminals, unplug them both, one will test as ground the other, [drivers side probably] will test as 12V+ when defog switch is on.

Check the terminal connections to the defog grid first.:idea:94

Are these the terminals you are talking about at the rear window? I just removed what was in the black plastic piece connected to the window itself. These look fine, should they be tight within the plastic piece and not be able to wiggle around?

Yes they are and they look good.

If you have a multimeter you can check what the voltage is at the pos.(+) terminal.:corn:94

As far as I can tell it’s reading 9 volts.

Find the defrost relay and replace it, sounds like burnt contacts, should be under dash on drivers side, maybe right on the fuse box, you will hear/feel it “click” when you turn the defrost on and off.:cross:94

when you find it take a pic and let me know which one it is cause i’ve been looking for it and can find it. i have no power to the defogger switch or rear defogger. and all my fuses are good

I dont mean to threadjack here, just wanted to ask in case anyone knew…

Anyone have a link to a DIY that deals with repairing the defogger lines? Mine are pooched and rear defroster works like poo…

No, I take that back. Poo is way warmer.

Did anyone find this relay?

buy one of the repair kits. basically are conductive paint that you paint to connect the lines where they are broken.

From the manual, looks like there should be four relays up at the top of the fuse box by the driver’s left ankle. The defroster is the lower leftmost of those when facing the box.

Can anyone actually point us to where this damn relay is? I can hear the clicking but it’s tough trying to locate it by clicking since I’m not a dolphin and cannot figure our sonar…

It’s easier to “feel” the click of the relay to pin point it then listening for it.

Or if you can hear the relay click, pull the relays one by one untill the clicking stops. 94

but I don’t even know where these relays are?

Should be on the under dash fuse box.
Is that not where you hear the clicking from? 94
