rear fender rust?

ok, ive seen about 5 DA’s in my life (i live in a small shit hole town in idaho pop. 4k) and 3 of them have rust up the ass around both back fenders one of which is mine and another thats just starting to rust that i’m about to buy, is this a common thing or just bad luck on my part?

You’ll find them on most Honda’s (rust on rear wheel wells/arches/quarter panels). Most of the late 80’s and early 90’s Honda’s, such as civics, accords, integras, preludes, crx, etc. most have the wheel well rust, but if properly taken care of and washed regularly it can be avoided. It is more difficult in areas with lots of rain and winters where a lot of salt is used on the roads. Thin Japanese metal + North American winters = rust (only speculation hehe)

Just to add, there were some non-automotive (environment? can’t find the right term) issues in the late 80s and 90s that impacted I think the steel, paint and paint prep for cars during that era. Car makers had to live with these federal guidelines and doing so meant having materials that just didn’t stand-up well to the elements.

whats the best way to correct this problem, the car i’m about to buy has rust on both rear fenders but its not too bad just about the size of a dollar bill on both sides

I don’t know how much salt Idaho puts down but I know salt eats at cars REALLY fast here in Ohio. My DA is still clean but just through this winter alone it’s started eating at the rocker panels…I try to wash it as much as I can but seriously it won’t take long.

we got hit pretty hard this winter, and theres a bunch of this salt/gravel/ice melt crap on the roads but luckily the car im lookin at buying has been out of comision for a while do to peoples lack of knowledge and trying to jump a direct ignition wire to the fuel pump even thought they just need to replace the MFR
