rear fog light install and wiring??

Hey whas up guys, Im considering getting a rear fog light from an EF and I have an extra front fog light switch i can wire it up to…but my question is i heard there is a template on the inner part of the bumper where the light should go…and can anyone help me out how the wiring would be hooked up to the switch…if anyone can do a simple diagram would be greatly appreciated…any help is appreciated thanks…

I’m not sure exactly what you’re asking but when I hooked mine up it was fairly straight forward. A front fog light swith will have five wires I believe. There is a ground, switched power, constant power, and two switched power out wires (one to each fog light). Just wire constant and switched power to the switch and ground it. That deals with the first three wires. you can combine the two wires to the fog or just use one. Connect a wire and run it to the back of the vehicle. It will connect to the blue wire on the fog light. You will ground the black wire from the fog light to the chassis. The light should work.
As for installing the light in the bumper. You will find a outline on the back of the bumper cover the exact size and shape to cut out. You will probably also have to remove a small amount of plastic from the back of the light housing. You will have to cut out an are in your bumper support. Basically you will have to cut an are for the back of the housing to fit through the bumper support. Any questions just ask.

Wrong^^^.

First, although there are 5 leads to the fog light switch there is only one output, [red/blue] the others are…

Red/yellow - 12V+ input.
Black - ground for indicator bulb.
Red/black - illumination input from park/head light switch.
Red - illumination bulb ground, from DBC.

No wiring from the fog light switch goes to the fog lights directly, the red/blue goes to and controls the fog light relay, the fog light relay supplies power to the fog lights from fuse 19 - 15A.

CG5accord I would recommend you connect the connect the red/yellow lead from the spar switch you have to the output, [green/black] of your “Back-Up Lights Switch” on standard transmission or the output, [green/black] from the “A/T Gear Position Switch” on automatic transmission, parallel the reds, red/blacks, and blacks of both switches and run the red/blue to #85 of a relay, ground #86 of the relay run a fused, [10A] lead from the batt. to #30 of the relay and run a lead from #87 of the relay to the fog light, ground the fog light to the cars chassis, that way the rear fog light can only come on when you are in reverse, [and rear fog light switch is on.:bowthank: 94

Alright well its been a while since I did this on my car and when I did I was starting completely from scratch. The previous owner did a real good job of tearing apart wiring looms, cutting random shit, and splicing in some strobe lights into the fog lights. I decided I would stay away from the “existing” fog light wiring and run my own circuit. Sorry if I mislead you with identifying what the five wires were. I don’t mean to spread misinformation.

fcm- why would you even bother putting in a rear fog light if it only worked when you were in reverse? That would effectively render it useless. Its a fog light not a reverse light.

Thanks for the help guys…appreciate it a lot…but what I was looking for is so that I can use the rear fog light as a stand alone system that i can just control with the extra fog light switch i have. If i want it to be wired up this way will i have to wire up an extra 30A relay or is there a position that i can plug into the fuse box like “fcm” described above…sorry for more questions guys I just couldnt find information on this…thas why I asked

from what i understand it looks like I will have to wire it up separately…with a new relay and new wires connected to the battery and stuff…but still using the spare oem fog switch that i have…correct me if im wrong anyone…

[QUOTE=rollinmyda;1968898]fcm- why would you even bother putting in a rear fog light if it only worked when you were in reverse? That would effectively render it useless. Its a fog light not a reverse light.[/QUOTE] Fog lights are to see where you are going when there is fog, the only time you need to see where you are going behind you is when you are in reverse.

Back-up lights only come on when you are in reverse for a reason, to illuminate, a rear fog light is for illuminating behind you when there is fog, why would you want to have it on at any other time?

CG5accord If you want to be able to turn the rear fog light on without being in revers, just connect the red/yellow from the switch to one of the free pins on the under dash fuse box, you have a choice, there is a 12V+ constant free pin, [hot at all times] a 2nd ign. free pin, [hot when ign. switch is in run] and a park light free pin, [hot when park/head lights are on].

The rest of the wiring of the switch and relay stays the same. :idea:94

awesome…thanks for the info i needed the input information

Those fog lights are also intended so cars behind you can see you during heavy fog. So I don’t believe it’s meant to go with reverse lights. Good concept though, makes sense. Mines hooked up to a fog light switch, don’t remember what wires go where off the top off my head though.

The rear fog light is meant to make you stand out more to other drivers in foggy driving conditions. Thats why its red. If it was intended to serve as a light to drive by it would be white. Thats what the reverse lights are for. I’m not trying to argue about it, thats just what they are. Fog lights.

I remember reading up on some other thread I forgot, but it had a picture of the underdash fuse box with the free pins locations and what they did…I wonder does anybody know where I can find a picture of the underdash fuse box which can tell me what free pins do what…thanks a lot

nvm ^^^^…i found the pic of the underdash fuse box where it says what pin is what…thanks again guys for helpin out Ill try to post a DIY with pics when i do the conversion…

Sammyloski, since you have done this before…would you be able to add a little more detail on this subject as to mainly how u did the wiring as well…thanks a lot…appreciate the help

this is the picture i found…about the underdash fuse box…if anyone also wants to refer to it and what pins do what…

You get it done yet?

^^HAHAHA…no man I was having such a hard ass time finding the damn foglights…but i found a set yesterday…used ones…so once i get them i will start doing it as soon as this chicago winter does down a lil bit…but when I’m doing it I’ll try to post the DIY for sure…any other input is awesome…im still waiting on Sammy to chime in he said he would keep me posted on how he did it as well…

When I did mine I used #3 for my power supply. I didn’t want to forget that it was on and have it drain my battery. At night you would never forget its on(they’re REALLY bright), but I didn’t want it to have constant power so that accidents couldn’t happen and I couldnt leave it on during the day when the keys were out of the ignition. I could have used #4 but at the time I just thought it was a dead pin because my lights weren’t on.

Since the light is such a bright light I’ve heard of people switching in a smaller/less bright bulb than the one that comes with it to avoid getting pulled over. I’ve never been pulled over for it but I could easily see a cop with too much time on his hands trying to make an issue out of it. If you want to switch it out let me know and I’ll find out what kind of bulb they’ve used.

Also, on the DA the rear bumper isn’t as thick as other cars its used on. The back of the fog light housing won’t clear the rear bumper no matter how much of the bumper you cut out. You will have to cut the back of the housing to shave off any depth from the housing that you can. I bought mine brand new from ICB so I really didn’t want to modify/chop the back of it off, but it ended up being the only way I could get the front to sit flush with the bumper.

so you had to shave the garnish…of the fog lamp to make it sit flush with the bumper and yea please let me know what the other bulb size is as well…it dont hurt to know the info…if i do need it

Hey Nirmal, I went ahead and put everything how it was and this is how I had it. Remember, this is not the correct way IMO since I was not using a relay.

Just chiming in with the info i do now, and waiting for the full correct write up!!

Sorry man I couldn’t find a bulb size. I did find a picture of the bulb in the thread I was remembering before. Its on team integra. If you want to search just search “edm rear fog wiring”, thats the name of the thread.
