i know the gen3’s in europe had the rear fog lights, did the gen2’s? and if so, does anyone have a pic? they are very useful in the climate i’m in, and i am thinking about doing it too mine. just wondering… i have a switch and wiring for my front auxilaries, so wiring a rear light to a switch wouldn’t be a prob. thanks, anyways…
Only way to do it with our tails would be to disable the inner tail/brake lights, so only the outer ones would work. Then use the left inside brake light mounting, and either use an 1156 socket with a switch to toggle the light- or… keep the 1157 socket, and use a toggle switch to trigger the brake light circuit of it.
One thing that’s important, make sure you don’t use voltage from the original wiring, or it may interfere with cruise control operation- you can still use the ground wire though. you’ll have to run a 12v pos. wire from another source besides brake lights- fuse it with a 3amp fuse, also.
well, i had thought about that but do not want to comprimise normal visibilty. and i rear fog is brighter then a brake light. i also thought about using one of the reverse-light housings with a red 1157 bulb, which would have about the same brightness. my third idea would be cut a rectangular hole in the license plate area and use a seperate assembly and mount or even below the rear bumper. is there any such assembly i could find. thanks.
Put some fogs lights on the roof like tow trunks…
I thought about this but decided against it. I wanted to use a hole-saw and drill out 2 holes next to my license plate area and mount round fog lights in the hole. Of course you will have to fabricate your own brackets, but its doable…I didnt do it because i got the WW rear cap and didnt want to cut holes in it =(

ok, when i say rear fogs, i do not mean using the kind meant for the front, i mean rear ones, such as on any european car. they are amber and brite for fog. i live in a place where there is heavy fog and snow. the rear fog on our mercedes is quite useful, i have followed the car at times, and that is all you can see from a certain distance. and you only have it on one side as not to confuse people with brake lights. i am going to look into using my left back-up light assembly and maybe paint that lense red or get an amber “condom” for the light. i will just splice my existing wiring from my front auxilaries because those are also only used in heavy fog(they are 100watt off road lights). any further advice or ideas, i appreciate.
I’ve never heard of rearward facing foglights. But if they’re white/yellow like you say, wouldn’t you think the car in front of you is actually coming towards you? Or is this just common sense in Europe?
I’ve only seen original equipment rear fogs on Mercedes, Audi, and some Volvos here in the U.S. - and all of them consist of a single bright red lamp on the left side of the vehicle. I personally have never seen a white, yellow, or amber rear fog.

Toucan makes red LED strobe lights- Summit sells them. One of those might not be a bad idea, if you could set it to stay constantly lit- maybe mount it on the rear deck panel inside the hatch… TCN-50010.
I saw a dude who mounted one red/ one blue above his rear view mirror, cop style, they stayed lit, and from a distance looked just like an undercover car.
the gen3 integra in the UK had them molded into the rear bumper, all european cars have them. and they are a bright red. sorry, i did not mean amber, sorry for the confusion.
here is a pic of the type-r with a rear fog, i would not want to cut the bumper in this spot, i would do it next to the lisence plate where it is not as noticeable.

The Gen2 was never sold in Europe. As far as I know anywayz.
ok, so i have narrowed it down to these options( all i need to do is fgiure out how the switch will be, see thread in “interior” forum).
so i have decided to go either of the 2 ways, let me know what you think(remember this is for function, not to look cool)
-
use left-side reverse light assembly, re-wire to a switch inside.
A. paint lense red
B. paint the existing bulb red(anyone know the wattage?)
C. get a red bulb (21watt, 12volt)and possibly find a socket that will fit, if the reverse light socket won’t work. -
get an aftermarket rear fog light such as:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1769655946 or http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1860477496
A. mount in the license plate area(just to left)
B. mount under rear bumper(dead center below license plate)
I kinda prefer the first option and maybe painting the lense would be best, but would look somewhat odd-ball. if i find the correct bulb. either way, the wiring and switch will take the most work. thanks for your input, it is always valued.
In japan, the G2’s are equipped with standard rear fog lights on both sides in the rear. I remember seeing a picture of it…
ok, thanks…i have decided to use the existing left side reverse light. the bulb is 27 watts, so it will be okay. i am going to paint the bulb with some red translucent paint. hopefully it will be bright enough, i can always find a higher wattage bulb. i am going to wire it into the wiring i have for my front auxiliaries and it will use the same relay and switch. i also ordered amber bulbs and fluted lense/reflectors for the front auxilaries. the whole job(Front and back) will end up being $20. the 16-gauge wire is the most expensive. thanks for eveyone’s opinion, sorry for not clearly explaining what a rear fog was and the purpose/functionality of it.
I don’t think that painting the bulb would be such a good idea… (i’ve tried it before and it was just bust)…
Although, I had an idea awhile ago… I was going to purchase one of those long LED third brake lights (kinda like the one they have on those chevy astro vans on top) and my idea with that was to put it on the lower part of the rear bumper (mine is a 90-91 bumper) kinda behind and underneath the license plate and use that as my rear fog lights…
what do you think of that idea?
that wouldn’'t be too bad, but i think i may paint the lense, kinda defeats the purpose of having it “hidden”, but better then drilling and mounting, etc… the LED would be pretty bright though.
