Rear hatch hydralics doesn't hold up

For a good long time my stock hydralics for the trunk held up with a three piece spoiler I installed 10 years ago. Now it doesn’t stay up at certain seasons. Like winter. Summer it’ll stay up. Not all three pieces weigh it down. Just the center piece and that probably weighs 2 pounds.

I even tried brand new hydralics from the dealer and they still don’t hold up. Is there something in the market thats strong enough to hold heavier trunks?

Thanks guys, I tolerated this problem for too long.

i noticed the same thing on my acura legend which has hood lifts. in the winter time they were barely able to keep the hood up but during the summer they held up just fine. i believe it has something to do with the weather because i just replaced them about 2 years ago

this could be stupid but have checked if water is leaking and and pooling i am not sure if this is possible but it could just be like that little extra weight that is doing it

or the struts could just be going out and need replacement.

there like a $10 a piece at a auto parts store, a worth while investment if you ask me.

Yep its the weather…in the winter it gets cold and kinda frezzes inside it and theres less friction…but at like the auto part stores like autozone they sell those heavy duty universal hydraulic poles for trunks, hoods, and doors

mind linking us to where these sell for 10 bucks? i see them for around 40 each

I baught mine from auto zone, mind you this was about 4 years ago.

$40 now. :frowning:

that sucks cause one on the drivers side of my new teg is going out:bang:

Thanks for that tip. I’ll check out autozone.

i got autozone…they hold up hella strong!

Yeah but do you have an aftermarket wing? I’ll check them out.

i had the same problem with mine but now it doesn’t hold at all… i think the fact that i have an aftermarket wing caused them to fail sooner…

it cant be the case since when you’re driving around town… or anywhere for that matter i hope you’re not driving with your hatch up…

theres tension when its closed but it would be the same as normal.

yea but the added weight when actually lifting the hatch will definitly cause it to wear out faster than if it was lighter…
