Has anybody fixed the rear hatch from rattling when going over bumps?? The problem gets worse with 40 series A520 rubber when going over bumps; on stock rubber the rattle is virtually non-existant. Funny thing is that it’s NOT the latch that’s rattling because I tried the black tape fix as mentioned earlier (just wrap it around the latch and the rattle stops). It’s the plastic covering that runs the length of the hatch on the back, between the long things that support the hatch when it’s open.
If I open the hatch and hit the edge of the hatch just under the rear ‘A’ emblem in an upward motrion I can hear the little squeak squeak.
Any responses greatly appreciated on how to cure this.
Remove the plastic covering from the hatch. There are approx six spots where metal clips attach the panel onto the hatch. Cover those six spots with electrical tape and re-attach your panel.
The squeaking is coming from the metal clips moving on their attachment spots.
I put tape on the steel loop on the hatch that mates up with the latch. This stopped the rattle for 4-5 days. There was some wear on this hoop in one inside corner. I took out the 2 big #3 phillips screws and turned the hoop around 180 degrees and removed the steel shim that’s between the hoop and the hatch. NO MORE RATTLE!! The hatch bcomes a little harder to slam shut but I’ll take that over the damn rattle anyday. Try it without removing the shim first, and if it still rattles try a couple pieces of tape in it’s place.

shootingstar… how did u adjust your hook?? i tried to adjust mine but it seems like there is no space, i couldnt even see the mechanisms… my hatch will close but i have a big gap.
Not sure what you mean by “adjust”. I did’nt mess with the latch part that’s on the body at all, just the hatch hardware. All I did was turn the fitting on the hatch around 180 degrees to move the wear point to unworn metal. You can move it around before tightening the screws a little but it really doesn’t seem to matter. (The tape trick would last a few days before it would wear thru.) This trick works on G2’s, G3’s and prolly others too.
