Ok, my car is running like ****! Now that I got that out of the way, I took a wire off of the distributor cap and the spark was red. My mechanic said that my spark was weak and that I would probobly need to get a new distributor. When I took the distributor car off, there was some kind of white/cream colered liquid on the otherside. What is this and what can my problem be other than replacing the whole distributor.

Wow, how’d you get jah-izz in there? J/K
I’d start with a new cap and rotor. That may just be some dielectric grease someone got a little crazy with.
yeah start off with the cheap stuff cap and rotor and check the coil and ignitor with a multimeter while your at it.

Practice, Patience, and Precision :danger:
It was white greese mixed with motor oil. I have already replaced my cap and rotor. So what’s next?
Motor oil in the cap? that’s not right… maybe you do need a new distributor. That white grease is prob. white lithium grease used in the bushings.

Actually, if memory serves me right, motor oil in the cap is right. The little o-ring between the cap and distributor is supposed to be lubricated. I don’t remember where I read this, whether it was the manual or the Helm’s, but I do remember applying some engine oil onto that o-ring like you would an oil filter gasket. Maybe they just went overboard on the previous install.
